55 gallon plastic/metal drums from rural king...:

I was looking at these drums from rural king. They have both metal and plastic. Do any of you know what was previously stored in these?

Are there any labels on the drums? Does a Rural King manager know what was in them, perhaps?

I asked and they did not know. My intent was to

store water for non-consumption. Some of these once had soap, grape juice etc..... I guess I am trying to avoid the ones with roundup in them.

Might want to check around for some IBC's. The big 275-300 gallon one.

Hubby got them for the same price that he would have gotten 55 gallon barrels for.
He checked at bottling plants and such for the food based ones.

Just an idea

I bought a couple of them from the Mt. Zion, Il store last fall. At the time the plastic barrels were food grade and had contained grape juice. I would find it pretty hard see them re-using (illegaly by the way) barrels that contained farm chemicals.

I don’t know the first thing about rural king, so I can’t give you any input on those drums. The reason I am responding is I thought I could suggest another route for your acquisition of drums. I don’t know how close you are to a major bottling plant, but I always get my drums from Pepsi Cola for free. Coca-Cola doesn’t bottle in all their plants and the smaller bottlers don’t go through enough drums to have enough to donate, but all you have to do is ask. Free is always better, even if you do have to drive a few miles, especially when you know what was stored in the drums.

Almost all food processing plaints have them. Either the drums or larger tanks to get rid of. I got mine from a local food processing plant that used some kind of corn syrup in the ingredients. Most will charge you $25 for them but some are free $25 is the deposit on them.
