Game cameras - questions

I posted down in general chat that someone is stealing from my garden. Today when I talked to the deputy sherriff they advised me to get a game camera.

I dont know much if anything about them. I want one that isnt too expensive in case it is stolen, but should I get one that doesnt flash when it takes a night picture? I dont want the person stealing from me to know I have them on a picture and go looking for the camera. This area is a good 600 feet from my house so I cant really run a line up there for a live shot I dont think. Any help is much appreciated.

Unless you want it stolen or broken you will need one that doesn't flash when taking
night pictures. How often is your garden getting raided and what are they taking ?

I’ve got a couple Moultrie IR (no flash) game cameras that I use on my place. They retail for around $220 at Cabela’s. So far I’ve been pretty please with the picture quality.

I don’t know if the other makes are different, but with my IR while there isn’t a “visible white flash” you will still see the glow from the IR emitter when the shot is taken. The deer notice it, but it doesn’t seem to frighten them and I’ve gotten plenty of picture of them looking right at the camera.

Get a IR flash camera and hide it in a birdhouse...

Check out the Black Friday sale ads for Cabela's, Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shops. They have Game Cameras on sale this Friday.

You can tell what someone thinks by reading the bumper stickers on their car. You can also tell if they think at all.

We use a Bushnell brand called Trail Sentry. We also have a Moultrie MFHCDC 501. Both work fairly well. My sons use them so I am not sure which does what but one of them takes a 12 second video, then a still photo and then when motion again, a 12 second video and so forth. The boys like it the best. One we bought a Walmart for about $150 but the other cost over $200 but I am not sure how much. I think it was the Bushnell that cost more and the boys bought it from Bass Pro Shops.....I think.

A neighbor uses several more types and gets incredible photos. We get a few but I think our dogs run off most of the wild life.

Your problem about trying to catch a thief is that the cameras are so expensive and in order to get good photos, you have to mount the camera within reach. Someone can just remove your camera from the post or tree and keep going. We tried to put one on a tree near our Main Gate but someone took it loose and set it on the ground......almost like a warning. Thank goodness they did not steal the camera.

Good luck
