Log Cabin for $4000??

I know this is dried in but still.
Found it on Craigslist in Chatanooga but he will build in the surrounding areas.

I will build on your site this log cabin, or, one like it, built to your specifications. For Only $4,000. Limited Time Offer. Includes logs, stone, and all the building materials needed to complete the job. The cabin is 16' x 20' with a 4'wide x 10'high natural stone fireplace. Or if you prefer the box look instead of the narrow look. I can build it 20' x 20' for $4,600 . 14' high with a 10' ceiling. Or, 12' high with an 8' ceiling. I can build the cabin in 1 to 2 weeks but allow 4 weeks for completion by contract.

16' x 20' is more the size of a nice storage shed, but if he does what he says, those are awfully cute, and I wouldn't mind having one as a guest cabin!

Edited, the only completed cabin picture I saw is on his home page, and that one looks old. Click on the links, and unless I am missing something, all you see is footings. No completed cabins.

The log cabin on this website is the John Oliver Cabin. This cabin set inside of the Smokey Mountains on the Cades Cove Loop Road.

If this is a legitimate business why are they stealing photo's.

Here is a quote from his website-
"Some of you have asked me about the picture in the top two corners of the page.
That is my great-great-great grandfather's cabin John Oliver of who I am a proud direct descendent.
His cabin still stands today after 200 years in Cades Cove, located in the Smokey Mountains.
Building log cabins is a family tradition."

16 X 20 Log Cabin has approximately 6000 board feet of wood. White oak log price deliveried to the mill is $415.00 for the raw logs.
Footer cost two days labor and materials $250.00
The Fireplace is easily $2000.00
There is Roofing and alot more. I have doubts about this site.
I sell cabin Kits here at the mill and one is being built now. The family has Approximately $3500 in a 14 by 32 work shop. This is top of the line built to last with things like a covered porch.

I went back to the site and looked at his work schedule. I under stand what he is doing and still think the fireplace is a misprint. I am not a mason but I would think the fire place would be close to a $4000 add on. He is apparentely cutting small trees and slabbing two sides. No problem with this at all. This does save money. This is a great deal if there are not anything that is hidden.

What if he's using a small pre-fab fireplace and stovepipe, then boxing it in with rough lumber?

Ok, after reading through the site, this guy does not have a completed cabin to take pictures...this business is in its infancy. He's still hiring workers, and I'm guessing his cost will go up.

Being the person I am, I'd like to wait and see some completed work and talk to some of the cabin owners.

I would want to see one of his buildings first but if it checks out I would get in right away. Those are fantastic prices. If he won't let you check out some of his existing cabins I would run away, fast.

If I had $4,000 I would get one. I can do the plumbing and dh can do the electrical. And I have land on which to build it. 20 feet by 20 feet would make a nice little "get away" cabin.

anyone think its a bit suspicious that he has about 12 pictures of families cabins...4 links dont work and all the rest are simply building the foundation. Maybe its the cynic in me but I got a red flag.

I have little knowledge regarding these matters. My interest lies in the fact that I would LOVE to be able to purchase this product for a mere $4,000. Every bone in my body is telling me that it is too good to be true. I hope to be proven wrong.

I saw no street address or phone number for Michael Brumlow on the "ourlittlelog cabin" website.
I did trace his name back to a main website at http://michaelbrumlow.com/
there was a phone number 423-591-3082

BBB had no infromation for Our Little Log Cabin Chattanooga, TN 37407
also no result for his charity "Kids Safety Smart" P.O. Box 71702 Chattanooga, TN 37407 423-443-3473

I say proceed with caution. Ask for names and addresses for references. If possible go and look at a finished cabinn

I stand corrected. I should have read the entire page instead of focusing on the picture.

I made the same mistake, but he really should have a picture of a recent cabin that HE has completed. There is a picture of another one story cabin on his page, that is also old. He claims to have built it many years ago. I would like to see what he is actually offering.

I also find this setup a little suspect. Would need to see a finished product before doing any business with him.
Marie and I built our "weekend cabin" on our homestead. We used the cheap landscape timbers from Home Depot. Made a 12'x16' cabin with a 12'x8' sleeping loft.
Have less than $2000.00 in it.
You can see pictures of it on our web site. We love it and would do it again.

Hey Hank, how old is your cabin? Have you had any problems with your landscape timbers warping?

Your cabin looks nice, Hank. I have something similar but without the sleeping loft.

A while back, I stumbled upon a really cool website run by a man who taught classes on how to build log cabins using the "butt and pass" method. I'm including the link to the site because the pictures of his students' completed homes are really impressive.

http://www.loghomebuilders.org/

This thread made me think about that site because several of his students reported that after they'd taken the class and built their own cabins, they had started their own side businesses making cabins for other people. No idea whether this is one of those students...
