Raised the roof!!!

Literally. This is what it looked like before:

And after our work today:

Please excuse the poor photo quality. My good camera doesn't get tight shots like this at all.

And it probably wasn't the best way to do it. The worst part is that the roof inside actually slopes. There is an inch difference between the left of the window and the far right hand corner, with the corner being shorter. That is going to be fun to fix.

Nice start!

A couple of $12 hydraulic jacks and some 4x4's might make things go a little easier.

A couple floor jacks would be even better. But for now I have it high enough to put the wall framing back in. If it wasn't rotted so bad we never would have been able to do it by hand.

It is a crying shame that the previous owners felt they needed to lay another layer of pressed particle board and vinyl flooring every few years instead of fixing the then minor hole in the roof.

I told dh about the height difference along the wall. He said "it's not so easy as you thought is it". Good thing he was at work. I never thought it would be easy, just something that had to be done.

Found the reason the wall slopes. The wood beams on top of the concrete foundation are all messed up and one part is shorter than the other. Oh well. It can be corrected when we get to that part. I'm just going to frame in the temporary wall using the measurements that are there now.

Dh said it would be easier to tear off the poorly built and rotted additions and rebuild them from the ground up. Yes it would but time and money do not allow for that luxury.

We still need to take out the old furnace and all the ductwork (who ever heard of running heating duct through the attic??????) and install the new electric baseboard heaters.

I'm tired just thinking about it.
