Is a 5000 btu burner enough for an upright smoker?

I am cutting a hole at the bottom of my smoker to put a 5000 btu propane burner. Any ideas whether this is enough? What I have is an upright brinkman smoker.
thanks

That should be fine.
It doesnt take a lot of heat since for most things you dont want to go above 250 degrees, and "cold smoking" is less than 150 degrees

Is your smoker the tube type that has a center section that lifts off? All I do is lift the whole center section off leaving the bottom with the charcoal pan sitting there. I then place the body on top of my propane cooker. Not sure of the BTU's it was a freebie. No cutting, drilling or anything. This way it goes right back together for charcoal use if I take it camping.
What burner is 5,000 BTU most I see listed are 50,000.
