smelly tires

Really, they are smelly.
I bought a hand truck for our firewood. The plan is to use it to bring the firewood in from the porch and leave the wood stacked to use in the hand truck in the living room but the tires have that really strong fake rubber smell (made in China) that makes me sick.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of that smell?

I tried to get my husband to leave it outside on the porch to air out but he doesn't want to chance it getting wet since it will be in our living room so is going to put it in the garage.

I thought about getting different tires but that would end up costing about as much as the handtruck cost and I'm sure he won't go for that so any anti-smelly suggestions are needed.

Thanks in advance

If it was mine I would leave the tires out in the weather until the smell is gone.

It will take it a while to go away if you put it in the garage.

Try washing in a strong baking soda and water solution. Let it dry in the sun.

Try sitting it in a box of charcoal. Mound the charcoal around the wheels. Let it stay there for a few days. Then clean the charcoal residue off the wheels.

BTW, put duct tape or another type of tape on the wheels, if there's a chance that the "rubber" will leave marks on your floors. Think heel marks on steroids.

If you simply want to try to air it out, put it outside in the sun shine, every chance you can get. Especially on windy days.

Hope some of these thoughts help.

yea, airing out is my first choice.

my sister suggested the baking soda too.

I tried to rub the tire on the floor to see if it would leave scuff marks but my husband said it has to be heavy and full for us to see.

thanks for the suggestions

Email the Chinese manufacturer for advice...maybe rub 'em down with some fly ash...

Sunlight does help speed up the outgassing of rubber... but make sure you do it out of doors.
