Question Help opening back door on escort wagon

I have a 95 ford escort wagon I can not open the back door the one on very back, went shopping now can not get stuff out. I can see the latch there is not anything stuck. I can not get it to lock back down so I can try to unlatch it again can any one help?

Does the key work in it? Try some liquid graphite lubricating oil in the lock and on the latch if you can oil it. Chances are it has a little rust in it somewhere.

I had a similar problem on my previous Subaru Outback. An occasionally effective trick for me was to lock and then unlock the car. That would sometimes trigger the latch and I could open it. It was a real annoying problem.

You are going to have to fold you back seat down and pull the groceries out the back side door. After all of the groceries are out of the way, crawl in there and fiddle with the inner lock and latch, spray some lube on them while you're at it.

My 95 Ford Escort Wagon was notorious for getting a bunch of crud from road dust fouling my locks and latches.

Worse case senario, the door panel will come off fairly easily once you figure it out, a rod may have slipped but I seriously doubt it.
