What is it that I need?

Alright, getting ready to press some cider (the garage smells heavenly right now).

I want to use that white plastic type of food grade board to cover my press platform. I mean, I've got a wood one now and really want to upgrade to stainless steel but I can't afford it right now... so...

What's that white food grade stuff that is thin and like a cutting board material and how can I put 1 or 2 inch sides on it to catch the cider as it's pressed out of the basket. The apples will sit in their bag on top of this which will sit on top of the board base for support.

And... any idea what I could use to seal those side if I put them on? Is silicone food safe (I believe it is in general).

Any other ideas/names of product would be helpful.

I have to build a 27" base.

Hey.

There is a food grade silicone. You could probably use fish tank silicone, since it needs to be non-toxic for the fish.

Can you get a used food grade 55 gallon drum and cut the bottom off with the side height you need for your purpose? I usually see these drums for $5-$8.

PS: you could probably use some plastic house plumbing off the cutoff barrel to drain your cidar to jugs

Now that's the kind of thinking that is exciting.

I have to see if I could find a 55 gallon plastic barrel now. Does anyone who has one know if the inside dimensions are at least 27" round?

Thanks Rocky AND Coup!

The barrels I see are 23" diameter... have to watch out for a bit bigger diameter.

You can get the cutting board sheets at www.usplastics.com, along with other cool things like gamma lids.
