Setting farm name up for business purposes???

I'm wanting to set my farm up with a name, etc. I would like to take advantage of not paying tax. I raise pastured beef, pork, eggs, honey. I sell the beef and pork, as it has been processed in a USDA facility. I'm wanting to LLC my farm name, Camden's Ridge. How do I go about doing this?

Any other suggestions appreciated.

In Indiana you don't need a farm name or an EIN to be able to purchase qualified products with no sales tax.

I have no idea what the requirements are in North Carolina.

farm expenses are exempt from taxes and certain farm revenue is exempt from tax and depending on what you farm you can even get other peoples tax money in the form of subsidies.

here you have to have a tax number if your exempt at least for state stuff not sure for fed purposes , when I worked retail we had to keep a form with your info and tax number or we could get a huge fine.

sorry tsyork dont know squat bout NC , did you try the nc ag dept website?

You've got to have a farm tax no. in NC for anything that you want to defer the tax on.

looks like from what I could find you need a federal farm tax license.
all I found so far is this

http://www.usda.gov/documents/FARM_A...TAX_POLICY.pdf

at the least theres some info in there you may find of use and if not about the tax number you can try your state ag dept

http://www.agr.state.nc.us/ or the USDA site http://www.usda.gov of maybe even the fda site.

sorry for thinking you were in new york , brain fart

here ya go

Fill out Form SS-4 for an employer I.D. number. At line 8a select the "Other" box and indicate that your a farm. Once you fill out the form call 1-800-829-4933 to get the number. have the form with you when you call. The form can be obtained at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fss4.pdf.

Dang!!!! You ought to be the one working at the Farm Services Agency for NC!! I talked to 9 different people and not one of them could help me. I'm going to pay a visit to our local Ag office. While there, I will let them know how ill-trained their personel are for elementary questions, such as, how do I begin the process for obtaining a farm-tax sales id number. Some of those I talked to didn't even have a clue what I was referring to, and they're working for that dept. That's the govt. for ya!

Thanks for all your help.
