mower safety cable

my mower has been in the shop more than in the yard this year. grrr...

there is a cable that runs from the bar you keep pulled back to keep the engine running (safety feature.) it attaches to the engine and now it is broken.

is there any way of fixing it myself or does it mean another trip to the shop?? or bypassing it to keep the engine from shutting off?

TIA!!

Yes, you can fix it yourself. It is not a hard repair.

PLEASE do not try to bypass it. I'd hate to see even a liberal lose a foot.

It was a joke.

Make sure you get the right part. It is model-specific.

Attach the engine end first, then work upward. Do not actually attach to the handle until you have figured out the sweep, and eyeballed how long it should be. I'm really not sure how else to describe this; explaining in writting would be a lot harder than actually doing it.

yes, i knew it was a joke.

thanks for your reply. so what is the sweep i am supposed to figure out, please?

is there any way of repairing the cable? i seem to remember having seen some kind of doohicky that you could put the broken ends into, then clamping? to make the connection. kind of a rounded off rectangle thing, about 1x2 inches??

you can tell i am really good at home repairs by my technical language.

then clamping?
A cable clamp might work if theres enough exposed cable to work with

Can you provide a picture??? On mine the cable attaches to a little lever and is pretty easy to change.
