I predict the autopsy will show he died of a gunshot to the head. Not that he appeared to be using it for anything anyway.

My Ex BIL shot through their Pickup hit his Uncle in both Legs while road hunting.
Had a Guy I worked with he shot his Pickup and killed it out in the middle of nowhere while Road Hunting. I thought it was funny.

Very tragic and such a shame. Young people don't use their brains for much. So many hunters get shot like that whether poaching or legally hunting. One should always see what one is shooting at not just hear it. My heart goes out to his family.

Neither of which resulted in the death of a 19 year old kid.
Poaching, while irritating, illegal and quite unethical is not a capital offense and hasn't been since the days of feudalism...

And so it tis the season. This happened near Dundee, Iowa.
On Monday Ronald Dean Lawson, 18, died when he was shot by a member of a hunting party during random target practice. Lawson was out of sight behind dense foliage before he was shot.

1. you people make me sick, celebrating somones death on the presumption that they were a "poacher", what's next, going to burn me at the stake for being a heretic?
Quote:
A young hunter was killed Thursday night when his friend apparently mistook him for a wild turkey and shot him in the back with an arrow.
Aaron J. Long, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday night. According to Sheriff Jim Hinkle, Long had been hunting near the Sam Dale Lake State Park with several friends Thursday evening when he decided to come down from his deer stand earlier than expected.
“Mr. Long was sitting on a small ridge when his 16-year-old friend walked up on him and mistook him for a wild turkey,” Hinkle said. “He was struck in the upper back and died at the scene.”

Vern in Il
I am not celebrating anyone's demise. Sorry if you took it that way. I was simply stating that it is the season of the hunting accidents. Guess by putting it in this particular thread, I did seem a bit callous.

His wonderful, loving grandparents go to my church--
They are broken hearted & grieving deeply. I know they don't celebrate another stupid 19 year old poacher being gone-- How sad--Be careful throwing rocks when you live in a glass house--
It's strange, but I think us grandparents have a more loving & joyful relationship with our grandchildren than we did w/ our children. We were so busy raising them, lot of the time we didn't have time to enjoy them.

Say Vern...you quoted a different situation than the story in BR's link.
From the link in the OP...
Quote:
GRANBY, Mo. -- Newton County sheriff's deputies say a 19-year-old man from Granby died after being shot in the head in a hunting accident. Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland says Steven Cox was shot while he and two other men were trying to poach deer northeast of Granby on Sunday night.
The sheriff says one of the men indicated he heard a noise that he thought was a deer and fired a shot, which hit Cox. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Copeland said the results of the investigation would be forwarded to the Newton County prosecuting attorney's office.

I think it's sick to be saying "one less poacher" over the death of someone who make a mistake and his friend who will have to live with the shock and horror his whole life.
What a horribly cruel response to a tragedy.

Wow, I guess you can't say anything and people get worked up around here. I was critical of the fact that they are doing an autopsy for an apparently obvious cause of death.
To me, that is a waste of resources. Hey maybe do a BAC test, but it seems relatively obvious how he was killed.

I hate it the guy got shot, but the nut that pulled the trigger should be charged with murder.I don't call someone shooting in the direction of a sound as accidentally shooting.
