How do u get used to Not getting things done

When you intend to get things done. Usually, if I intend to do something next week. Well, next week, machinery will beak down, or something else to impede me getting it done. Then next week, or the first week, weather will be against me, or I wont have enough money as I thought I would have. Its always something that keeps me from doing things when I first intend to do them. Does this happen to any of u??

Ha! It'll be there waiting for you - gremlins don't sneak in and beat you to it - so you get to it when you can. The list is never ending and you can't sweat it. So you either get used to it or you let it make you CRAZY! I opt for #1.... Just my 2 cents.......

Happens here all the time. It just waits 'til tomorrow . . . . or the next day. Unless it's a true priority; then it gets done.

Do what you can each day, do more tomorrow, if tomorrow does not come, someone elses problem/headache.

I've learned it's best not to try and get ahead (getting things done on a schedule)... If at the end of the day I haven't fallen too far behind, I'm doing good.

For me to fix one project, I need to do A. To get A fixed, I need B. B has a part missing. I need to get a part for B, and get sidetracked by C, which needs more attention than A. I go to town for parts for B, and carry the trailer (which needs a tire or two aired up...) Get the part, get home, and work my way backwards to the original project. At the last minute, something that shouldn't breaks, breaks, and I'm back to square one. Duct tape, epoxy, or welding rig, and then have to fix the rig... arrghhh, an endless loop. Sometimes I get frustrated, throw my hands up, and walk away, and tackle the projjie next week.

So yes, I sympathize.......

some days things go right and you need to give thanks. then some days you should just stay in bed. last monday was a borderline stay in bed day--everything wanted to be dificult but I fought and got done what had to get done and let the rest go.

Don’t you know it! Right now I’m trying to apply manure to the garden and I can’t get anywhere near it. We got another 3 plus inches of rain in 36 hours. To make matters worse, I trying to build an equipment barn and since there is no such thing as flat land on our property we have to build up a pad. This is only going to be a 24 x 24 barn, but in that 24 feet, there is a three to four-foot slope. Trying to level out that much rock and clay was tough before but it will probably be the middle of next week before we can get the Bobcat back in that slop. There is always something that can’t get accomplished; last winter, I had someone level out an area so I could put the greenhouse and dig out the root cellar at the same time. Due to the high winds, it took several weeks to install the greenhouse. I had planned on building the root cellar before the garden took off, but right now all I have is a gap in the hillside. Luckily, it worked out, because we needed more clay for the pad. Maybe, I can get the root cellar built this winter.

I understand completely... These days I'm happy if I can make strides forwards instead of backwards.

1. Get old and fat, then the undone chores don't bother you so much.
2. Do your best and don't allow the undone things to convince you that you aren't
3. Prioritize. If rain keeps #1 from getting done, go to #2. and don't let thoughts of other undone chores enter your head.

Cut yourself some slack. I doubt if anyone here can get it all done - and if they do, it gets undone very quickly. (think dishes)

Nature hates a vacuum so if you get close to finishing everything it will push something else out. Just live it and love it.

FBB = Happens all the time to ME too!!! I finally started writing down what I DID accomplish each day and it made me feel ALOT better!!! One person can only do so much so you just go with the flow and appreciate what you DO get done and the other stuff will either get done later or just fade away.....LOL

When I was employed by a large industrial corporation, now bankrupt, the "Franklin Planner" craze went around. It was a heavy, leatherbound, black calendar book with day planner pages for each day of the week. I think it had a planning line for each quarter hour time period, making the whole thing weigh at least five pounds , maybe more. Every thing, every project, every assignmrnt, every "to do" thing went into the planner. No good employe went without a Franklin Planner book, and no Franklin Planner employe got anything done for the first and last hour of each day because they were busy writing in their book----usually bringing old things forward from the day before.................

Now I just use one dedicated yellow Office Max tablet and periodically write down the 'to do' list of things to accomplish before the snow flies, or before Memorial Day, before Christmas comes, etc. It sits here at my desk every morning--challenging me to get off my duff and do something. And I look at the radar to see if the weather will make one project or another a priority. I usually get three fourths of the list done "before the snow flies", etc--and I put a few easy ones on the list because it's so much fun to cross one off........

Uh--oh, .............."fix snowblower"...................

..............Three factors for me , cost of parts , a dry place for me to laydown\sitdown and dissassemble the defective item in 70 degree weather and having another vehicle to drive whilst the Broken one is out of service . Fortunately , my '08 Ranger daily driver has a 60k\6 year warranty and the 2003 Chevy dually is in excellent shape . Thank the Lord for small favors , lol ! , fordy

What do you do in rain or snow.....in the winter? What can you take care of them.....seems like I'm running to get things done before the rain. Sue

I think you just have to accept that this is the way life is.

I was all worried about getting fall planting done because of the weather. I ended up getting it done but I haven't finished getting all the beehives prepped for the winter..... not much I can do if the weather is cold and wet. Next week it will warm up a bit (hopefully).

One thing I try to do is categorize the projects on my list. There are necessary ones that are ongoing or recurring, ones that are new (break them out into big and small), ones that please the wife but may not make sense to me (always try to get one or two of these taken care of at regular intervals), ones that are fun but may not make sense, etc.

My priorities are cosntantly shifting depending on the weather, how I feel, an opportunity that came up, etc.

Life is for living and I don't particularly care to keep a detailed scorecard.

As usual, just my 2 cents.

Mike

texican is cursed with the same gremlins that I have. My brother has them as well, so I think they follow families due to some original sin or some such.

Remember the old saying: Work always waits, so don't feel guilty, it'll be there when you get "'round to it".

Just remember to stop & smell the roses.
