Some Days Ebay Isn't Much Fun

Purchased a router on Ebay last week. It arrived today, but was a vastly different item than I purchased. Seller got PO'd on the phone that I would question his integrity, and even got to the point of suggesting that he come from Kansas to Texas to "kick my arse? Good luck if he wants to try it.

Called Ebay - yes you can talk to an Ebay/Paypal Rep personally. Ebay not pleased to say the least. Ebay will be refunding my purchase price plus shipping both ways and a coupon for my use.

I have all of the offending emails as documentation.

Ebay reflects the real world. Great, good and bad deals are to be had. Shysters are waiting to take one's money if not careful.

Still the best place to sell a lot of stuff, that won't sell locally. Selling worldwide is sometimes a hassle, but often the foreigners are the one's who bid the most.

Just learned the term last week for items SNAD - Signicantly Not As Described. Sound's like your deal.

Maybe the next auction will go better.

Well, first I'd like to apologize that the man came from Kansas. Sheesh. People have been on a rude rampage lately and I've run into A LOT of dishonesty since spring too. It's amazing. More and more people say one thing and do another.

Anyway, I've run into the same problems on e-bay and had a man just rip me from one end to the other and he was the one at fault. sigh

Glad to hear you got it worked out though and got your money back.

Haven't gotten the refund YET, but Ebay and Paypal are really easy about this. I send the item back, and either the vendor sends the money back through Ebay OR Ebay/Paypal simply removes it from his Paypal account. Ebay indicated that they would send me a coupon to reimburse me for shipping the item back. and I suspect Ebay will get that reimbursed by the seller too. In this case the seller has no recourse other than to do what Ebay tells him to do. He is the one at fault for sending the wrong merchandise.

Yeah SNAD. THe advertised Router costs $220 retail. The one sent $109 retail. Somewhat of a difference.

that is one reason i quit ebay

my sister in law had two occasions where ebay paid people back out of her account and she didn't get her stuff back....i don't like other people being able to use my money at their will.

Unfortunately, this is how the world is now. My work requires that I deal with customers throughout the day. It is amazing how rude, mean, and dishonest they can be. It is not uncommon to come across people who think they are special and deserve special treatment. The attitude of Americans has changed drastically since I entered the workforce over 20 years ago. Morals and ethics are not a high priority. This is one reason I have become more of a recluse.

I ordered (and paid for) an item from Half.com (ebay without the auction) and never received it.

So.....I waited the required length of time, contacted the seller, never got a response, waited again for a required length of time, and then filed a claim.

I got an e-mail yesterday asking if I had received the item yet and I promptly replied with a big, loud "NO!"

Prior to placing my order, I had checked the seller's feedback. He had only three or four, both as seller and buyer, but they were all positive so I thought I was safe. When I realized my purchase wasn't going to arrive, I went back to see if there were any new feedbacks and sure enough, there was. One was posted four days after the date of my purchase by someone who surprise! had never received their item. That buyer was out $80.00; so far, I'm out $22.00.

Hopefully ebay will make it right.

File the dispute through PAYPAL and they will make it right. PAYPAL GUARANTEES YOUR PAYMENT and will pay for your shipping the item back if need be.

Ebay is a difficult place at times. Sorry to hear about your hassle.
But it is not just ebay, I had some incorrect gas can spouts sent to me, it has been 2+ months getting it straightened out. Drop shippers are the pits sometimes.

In my case, I'm not ticked at ebay, I'm ticked at the seller.

It would be nice, though, if ebay were to make it right by me.

Rules of thumb:

1. Pay with a credit card, NOT a debit card. With a CC, as a last resort, you can always dispute the charge with the CC company.

2. File any claims with eBay and Paypal promptly ... as I recall, there is a rather narrow window of opportunity before a "statute of limitations" kicks in!

I did file a claim as soon as the time requirements had passed.

While I was jumping through the hoops to file the claim, I came across this:
Quote:
Buyers who go through their credit card company to dispute a charge may lose their privilege to buy or sell on Half.com.
Anyway, in my case, I just filed the claim a few days ago and I don't expect it to be resolved for awhile.

Good luck. I also thought I was somewhat protected from fraud by Paypal. Nope. Only if the seller has the funds still in his account. I was out $50.
Still, yes I still do Ebay, some. I have been screwed worse.

cheribelle,

how long ago has that been? within the last year or so, paypal has changed their buyer protection. if there is no money in the sellers paypal account, paypal refunds out of their own pocket.

you only have 45 days from date paid to file a claim and then you're SOL.

I sold an item on ebay and the buyer said it was damaged in shipping...I pack well so I doubted it...I asked the buyer to send me a picture of the damaged item...she refused, I filed a claim with the post office and never got my money back, buyer filed a claim with paypal...they told her she had to ship the item back befor she culd get a refund and had to submit tracking info, paypal refunded her 220.00...the item I recieved back was damaged and broken, but it was not the item I sent...I had no recourse...I lost my good working item, buyer got it in good condition, I know cause she sent it back in the same undamaged box.... and I lost my money. When I contacted the buyer and told her she returned the wrong item to me, she never responded...Imagine that...

Even though one cannot list accepting other forms of payments, some can still be accepted.

Regular buyers know ask and sellings usually willing to accept.

Cash for local pickups and USPS money orders still, accepted here.

Yes I've noticed that, but it seems to have been getting steadily worse over the past 5 years and has gotten REALLY bad in the past year. I suppose the economy has a lot to do with it. I don't know. But I cover all my bases now when dealing with someone I don't know.
