meat saws

Has anyone used the one horse meatsaw from Northern Tools? I'm looking at setting up a walk in meat cooler and getting a saw for processing deer, hog, and Dexter steers. I'm wonderning if this saw will be large enough. The old Hobart Industrial Saws are hard to come by. Are there any other alternatives?

I have one that has done 10 or 12 pigs and 3 cows and halved a bunch of chickens . It has payed for it self . The grinder is getting worn and the saw does cut meat not the faciest but it sure bets paying someone else .

I have one I got off of Ebay for much less than Northern - same Chinese saw. Works fine on deer and sheep. I don't like the grinder and would rather have a dedicated electric grinder. Band saw works fine though.

The bandsaw works great for smaller animals such as deer, sheep, and hogs. But when I tried it on a cow elk, it was just a little too small to do a good job. The grinder broke very quickly on mine as it kept slipping off and when I tried to tighten it down real good the housing broke since it was made of pot metal. I bought a commercial meat grinder, Torrey M12, and it would grind circles around the grinder on the bandsaw.

If you got the money I think you would be better off getting a better made bandsaw. If not, then Northern Tool would be better then nothing at all. Always keep an extra band blade on hand. When the saw blade starts slipping off the pulley's quite often, it's a sign that the blade is getting too dull and needs changed out. I've probably cut up close to 300 deer with my saw I ordered from Northern tool and it still works fine.
