contract ready yeah

I have just a few more questions before we sign the contract for our new pole house. We are going with a 30x64 10 ft sidewalls. We bought all our windows at habitat for humanity and are just waiting for the final price.
The house will be facing due south...i bought a ton of windows for the south side...then it hit me.........
i have a 10 ft porch...open on front and sides but the roof portion is 10 ft. Like a 10 ft overhang off the house and it runs the whole 60 feet/I bought a ton of windows cuz I want lots of light coming in...will this overhang block it?
anyway here I am at the last minute panicking and wondering if i need to reconfigure? A big porch would be nice...but i want light. Perhaps in the summer I will regret that.......
expenses keep adding up.its a bit scarey
anyway what do you think about the porch?

I have a porch roof that overhangs 10 ft to the west - we are grateful for it. We have plenty of light. I think in TN, you will be grateful for anything that helps keep your house cool.

Hey.

The light will still come in, but it won't be as bright as direct sunlight...dimmed.

There's a lot of different factors, is the house on a hill down in a low spot or are there many trees. You really don't want the sun beating in during the summer which a porch should help. Later in the year when the sun's angle is different you might get the light you want.
I'm guessing this is going to be built on a slab. Because of the limestone around E TN concrete slabs have a great tendancy to crack from the ground moving around so much. My garage floor has moved and cracked quite a bit over the years. We also have a dampness/mold problem around here. Check out how many houses and fences have green or black mold on them. Drainage is a problem due to heavy clay soil so do all you can to get the water away from the house.

the house will be in a small clearing surrounded by trees and brush....its on a fairly level area,, a little knoll? with a slight slope away in all directions. I have told both the builder and the ground man..make sure about water drainage.the house will be a pole house and it will have 4 inches of gravel and then a 4 inch slab poured.
I have a home design program but can't figure out how to make it work to show light effect. we can tip the angle anyway that would for us as we have plenty of room in our clearing.
on the bright side we can get the water trenche din and a septic for under 5,000 ouch.

Might want to check into putting plastic down before pouring. My house is on a hill and with full sun, still have mold and dampness problems.
The limestone rocks underground move a lot and deteriorate causing sinkholes, basically the ground moves a lot.

i am having a waterproof barrier installed before pouring. We don't really have a choice as to foundation. It looks like our soil is mostly clayish..not much rock from what I see. i plan on insulating the fir eout of this..will prob need a dehumidifyer to keep it from growing green. I am mostly concerned about the windows and front south facing porch. I want light and solar heat for winter..and not baked in summer.. Not sure what the answer is
