any paw paw people out there?

someone from another forum (www.permies.com) sent me 4 paw paw fruit today ups..and they came today.

there was one larger green fruit, one larger bruised drop brown and two smaller drop brown ones..

the brown ones looked like taters.

i opened the bruised larger one first..we tasted the fruit away from the bruise and it was good, musky, soft, kinda like muskmelon or peach or a little strawberry hint??

then we cut open the two smaller ones..firmer..two seeds in the center of each like a peach would have a pit..sweeter than the larger softer one..and less musky..liked the firmer smaller ones better..

the green one is on the counter..probably not quite ripe.

i went out with the pulp that was bruised, peels and seeds, and put the seeds and scraps into 9 planting holes..

i have one baby paw paw growing about 5" tall.

i'm a bit excited to have them grow and fruit...not sure how long it will take them to grow and fruit..but i'm excited anyway.

will want to know if any one has paw paws, what do you do with the fruit, can, freeze, bake, etc? recipes???

When we can beat the racoons to the paw paws we just eat them.
I always thought they tasted a little like bananas. It does take a while for them to fruit. Have fun with them

Pawpaws are great. My trees are giving me some nice fruit right now. Don't judge the pawpaw by the few you received via UPS {pawpaws don't ship well}.
If I were you, I would get a grafted, named variety from a known shipper.
After you eat a tree ripened pawpaw, you'll never look back.

we had a pawpaw tree when i was a kid in IN. i remember them to taste more like a really rich banana. they must not travel well because i've never seen one in WA. i really don't recall mom making anything with them. maybe put 'em a fruit smoothe or milkshake.
