Walmart now limiting ammo purchase....

I was at walmart yesterday looking at ammo and noticed that they are limiting you to 6 boxes only. Yes, I understand that 6 does seem excessive. But, what if I wanted to practice with 22's?

Maybe its just my paranoia but I am getting this itch to stock up.

Maybe it's not that 6 is excessive, maybe it's because the same people are buying up all the stock and other customers are complaining that the store is always out?

Our WM only puts quantity restrictions on birdshot when dove season starts and they put the ammo on sale.

.22's come in boxes of 550. If you need more than 3,300 rounds to practice with in one day, you must be closing in on Ad Topperwein with your shooting ability, lol.

Cabelas and Gander Mountain have been limiting ammo sales here for awhile. I think it is good as long as its for the right reasons. The Wal-marts here sell out of ammo within minutes of getting their weekly shipment in. Its because people will be there when it gets in to buy all of it to resale. Leaving regular folks who just want to shoot out of luck.
Of course, the limiting doesnt do much, all you have to do is come back and buy your limit over and over, or have you wife or friends buy them as well.

I was in Wal-mart here last monday and they had some rifle ammo, and a single box of 40 cal. That was the only handgun ammo they had in stock and only had a single box of it.

When I saw all this coming, I got into reloading. You should look into it. Its fun.

I go into the gun shop every two weeks(not much of a Wal-Marter)--looking for a Springfield M-6, and/or 22LR ammo. Have been waiting for about 8 months for bricks of CCI Blazers for practice and plinking fun. Out, out, out. Got some el cheapo stuff, but it jammed nearly once per every 10 round magazine. Gonna have to use it up--one at a time--in the single shot Savage 24....................

Meijer took out the long gun case sometime last year--all they have is paint guns and Red Ryders now. Still sell shotgun shells(say that real fast) and some rifle ammo, but in short supply. But there always seems to be ample deer slugs.

Maybe re-calibrating your gun sight would be more cost effective or invest in an eye exam. If it takes more than one bullet then probably too late anyway.

Bullets flying off the shelf has finally slowed down some here in my neck of the woods. There for a long time the stores would sell out within a few minutes of stocking them. I figure in a few years we'll be seeing lots of ammo in garage sales. That's when I'll be stocking up.

We just started a couple of gun seasons here. If you don't have your ammo by now, you're out of luck for the next couple of weeks

Our local WM limits us to one box per caliber. Doesn't really matter, though, because they still don't have any that I actually need.

.22's come in boxes of 50. A brick contains 10 boxes and is 500 shells. I have burned through a box of .22's just shooting varmints so far this year. When we first bought ammo for the shotguns we bought 10 boxes. Shotgun ammo was in short supply and I needed more .22 shells. I may have to start buying a box a week. Guns are no good if you don't have ammo for them.

Maybe it's a difference in terminology but the "bricks" I buy are boxes with 550 loose rounds in them.

Our ChinaMart says the ammo is gone as soon as it hits the shelves, it doesn't matter what caliber. Our local Sporting Goods has the same problem with the more common types. I haven't been able to find any .32 auto for several months now, I even asked the guys if they could hold back a couple of boxes for me and they said "No can do". Thank the Gods we have a plenty of 9mm, 12 gauge and .22 stashed away...just gotta find more for the four, nope make that five other guns.

Yes, but for those of us with multiple guns in the family and multiple family members shooting, a box doesn't last long. And per shell it's cheaper to buy a 'case' of ammo rather than a 'box'.

The one box limit per caliber drives me nuts when I want to go get ammo for a .410, 2 12 gauges, a 20 gauge and a .50 cal muzzleloader so we can make sure they are still sighted in before deer season and still have enough ammo to make it through the entire two weeks (or longer--we have 'youth' hunters here and the last couple years have enjoyed a late doe season in December). 1 box of any of those just is not going to get through the sighting in, plus opening day, let alone having 5 of us with tags to fill. I really don't want to run to town every few days for ammo; I only go to town once or twice a month usually!

I think this is the point...At a store, when something is really popular, you increase the quantity in stock. Why would you throw away sales?! If people are there to buy up all the ammo you have practically the moment you get it in every time, something is wrong....

People went nuts after the last election and started hoarding ammo. It's possible that the supply chain may be a little thin because of this. Some other stores limit sales also.

There are many govt. entities that also want to legally limit sales.

The guns are gone at most Walmarts. Only a matter of time before the ammo goes also.

Send in Grandma, Uncle Joe and all of the kid's over 18, to stock up.

Get while the getting is good.

No conspiracy or anything like that...An antigun president was elected so people went crazy buying and manufacturers could not keep..1 billion rds of ammo were sold in Dec08 to military,LE,and civilians.Manufacturers are almost caught up so ammo will be in the pipeline.I reload all my ammo(except 22,bummer),my friends that were'nt prepared were buying primers for 40-50$ a thousand and paying outrageous prices for bullets and powder.I have'nt bought primers or powder since 04.I know what you're saying about .22,it's so much fun to practice and shoot,a 1000rds seems to go in no time..

as a coach of a junior shooting club, i can tell you that if you are not shooting 300-500 rounds per person per week, you are probably not competitive. but we don't use the stuff sold at walfarts. there were real questions about keeping our junior highpower team in ammo for this years nationals at Camp Perry.

The ammo crunch seems to be slowing down here a bit, I even found some .380s.
Bought 300 rounds of .357 sig the other day, as well as some 9mm, .223, .32 auto, .22, and 38 special.
Not like it was, but it's getting there.

Our Walmart usually has a single box of something that I don't need...so I just look at it as an excuse to buy a new gun!

Our local gun store has been limiting us to two boxes per adult per day for a few months now.
