Anyone finding fall mushrooms yet?

We've been getting the perfect weather for them this year. It'll rain for 2 or 3 days then we get sunshine for a day or two. Then the weather will repeat itself again.

I haven't been out searching the forrest yet, but today I was taking my daily walk. I walk about a mile up the road and then back. I take a little gig with me and gig popcans out of the ditches. Might as well collect aluminum while do the walk my doctor orders. Well anywho, I stopped to gig a popcan and I happen to look across the ditch nearby some hardwood trees and "boing". My eyes about popped out of my head. Then I bailed across the ditch as if I was "frogman" , and tackled a nice big "Sheephead" mushroom. Then I silently peek out the corners of my eyes in all directions to make sure no one has seen me. (I'm out in the country, who the heck is gonna see me!)

Wow! This thing weighs about 7 or 8 pounds. I thought to myself, I better just cover and hide this thing and go get my jeep. If someone comes driving down the road and sees me carrying this big old thing they're liable to rob me. And that's what I did, got the jeep and went back and got it.

Also, on the way back on my walk I found a coupel puff balls to add to my wonderful collection. Anyone else been finding anything yet?

I found some puffballs near my garden, maybe 15, which is strange because my entire property is dry sand. Haven't seen anything else here, but one of the local farmers markets has had a few for sale. I really want some, but $8 for a pint is too much for me... Guess I better learn where to find my own.

Is there a good website for identifying edibles? I only know how to find morels in the spring, but I know there's shelf mushrooms, a red mushroom (spring), and others, and not just spring mushrooms but fall ones as well. I don't know any old-timers who can help me.

Thanks!!!
