Grain weight capability of wagon axle

Im takeing 2 old wood axles that are rotted out to my boys FIL who is a master welder, even better than me LOL. Anyhow, hes liable to want to know what kind of weight the axles might be carrying. So, What would a 32bu box of oats or wheat weigh?? If he can put 2 metal axles on the 4 wheels, ill build a grain box for them. Thanks for the answers

About 1800 lbs for the grain. With the box you're probably looking at 2500-3000lbs.

BILL, How many cubic feet will your wagon box hold? What will the measurements of it be? A bushel of wheat weighs 60 pounds, but a bushel of oats only weighs 32 pounds. <>UNK

He can use Weld Wood Glue. == Many modern farmers back in the late 30s, and 40s cut the ends off the old wooden axles, and clamped car axles under them. Most of the wagons were fitted with hay racks that had -wide side boards. We shucked corn in them and hauled grain on them. At haying time, the side boards came off and a bolster was put on the rear. I've seen many loaded with up to 100 - 70 lb. bales of hay. That's a lot of weight for 4 old used car tires. <>UNK
