BEFORE you buy at Lowes, Check your local plumbing supply houses. I am in the process of building a new home, and have spent some time shopping for shower and tub units. Anyone ever been to Luter Supply in Tylertown, Miss? Interesting place, but their tubs/showers are all gellcoat which do not hold up well.
I was advised by a plumber to only buy acrylic units. Anyway, to make a long story short, I priced an aquaglass shower at the local Coburns supply and it was $620. I took their quote over to Lowes to see if they would match it. At first they said they would, but their computer system would not allow them. Even the store manager tried, but could not make it happen. They finally gave up and told me "sorry, but no"
Then I called LCR Plumbing supply, and they even beat Coburns price, so I ordered both the shower and the tub from LCR.
So, shop around. I used to think that Lowes would be competitive on almost all items, but have found that to not be the case.
Ex: I needed several joints of 3" pvc conduit. Lowes was over $13 per ten foot joint.
I bought seven joints. I called a couple of electrical supply houses, and found the exact same conduit for just over $7 per joint. HUH? That's a heck of a price premium for the priviledge of shopping at Lowes. What a profit margin that is.
After wising up a little, I also priced toilets, and the exact same toilet was $30 less at LCR, and that was compared to Lowes sale price.
Anyway, I'm a little smarter now than I was.
Yesterday, I loaded up two toilets, and seven joints of conduit and returned them to Lowes.
Good luck with your project
