5gal plastic buckets STUCK TOGETHER! Help!

I acquired a stack of 4, but they're STUCK!

Anyone know a handy trick to separate them?

THANKS!

you need to twist them, spin them, rotate the top one as you pull.
not sure how else to put it. there stuck because of the vacum effect giving a twist will let a little air in breaking the vacum.

If/when all else fails, use compressed air. Just point the nozzle right at the seam between the two buckets. The more pressure in your air tank, the better.

Apply gentle heat, either hot water or by setting them out in the sun.

I don't have an A/C at the farm, so I guess I'll go with the hot water trick!

Actually, I don't have hot water, either, unless I heat it up on the stove ... LOL

Will give it a shot tomorrow, and let you know how it works!

I'm thinking maybe if I also tried to squirt some liquid dish soap in between ... ?

I did try the twisting thing, and also laying them down on their sides and applying pressure to hopefully break the vacuum, but no dice!

I really want these buckets, though. I mean, I only have about 37,000 of the things already! LOLOL

Lay the stack on its side, back off, and shoot a rifle through the bottom. That will release the vacuum.:1pig:

That'll work,,,,,, might be safer to use an ice pick and just put a small hole. Or a drill with a small bit

Well, there go my water buckets! LOL

Desperate times call for desperate measures, though. If nothing else works, I'll drill 'em and use 'em for container gardening instead.

Nah. they'll come apart. As someone said, set the bottom one in hot water. I have set them out in the sun too. The air trapped inside expands and pushes them apart.

yup poppy said it set them in the sun. The air will expand and you can just slide them apart. I have about 200 buckets. Dh calls me the bucket lady.

They make great hot caps, water&feed buckets.

If you can find someone with an air compresser . Stick the air nozzel into the side of the pail and they come right apart. It saves on learning a new language of cus words

I've used a thin strip of metal and was able to pry it between the buckets ... lets a little air in and they come apart.

Good luck!

Since you don't have hot water, what about trying ice water in the top bucket. Maybe that'll get it to shrink just enough to help twist that one out of the next one. Repeat.

With buckets with lips, I've turned the stack upside down. Plant both feet on the lip of the bottom one. Use the handle of the top one to try to twist. Some times one in the middle of the stack will give first. Sometimes the bottom one or the top one will give. Then, it's just a matter of repeating till all of them come apart. Agree about letting them sit in the sun first. The expanding air helps, as does giving the plastic a bit more flexibility to allow the vacuum to break.

Just some thoughts that may be useful.
