hops pricing

I'm wondering if anyone on the forum is selling fresh hops and what they are selling it for? I've seen pricing for cascade and nugget at around $2.50-$3.00 per ounce for fresh (not dried) when looking around online. Just wondering what is real pricing. We will have small quantities available and haven't sold it before.

TIA

Mike

Can you post pics of your hops? I have been kicking the idea around about getting some rhizomes next year.

Up & Up........

The prices out here have doubled in the last couple years.
I planted 3 rhizomes, this Spring. They aren't going to make much this year.
I plan on a couple more rhizomes in the ground next year, if these do well.

I brew 40 to 60 gallons of Beer & Ale, most years in 5 gallon batches.
That requires a couple pounds of Hops.
The hops & hop pellets run about $2.50 to $3.00 here, too.
I just get mine at the LHBS, where I pick up my Malt.
I guess you could save a little on line. But it's more time & trouble.
I'm just a lazy old Malt Extract Brewer.

I was told at a "beer supply place" that "homegrown" strength varies too much for serious brewers and that testing of the IBUs, etc., is cost prohibitive for a small grower. I believe he said if you'll willing to "chance it", you can use them for flavoring. Ha! I sense a challenge! If mine produce and I'm there to harvest this year, I'm going to use some and I don't even know what variety I have.

BTW, there are other uses for hops besides beer.

A local brew your own place told me something similar Katy although he said he would be willing to work with me if we scale up our plantings. They go through about 4,000 lbs of hops per year (pellets).

Here are our Cascades, as of last week.
hops pricing - Homesteading Questions

They are a prolific strain, though a bit citrusy, IMO. We grow several varieties and have learned that they are NOT the same as commercially grown. They are stronger. Use less or create the hops monster...

We have never sold any, but sometimes trade them. I wish the Hallertau would do as well as these 2 rhizomes in their second year in this pic. Closing in on harvest time too...

Happy brewing!

Our local homebrew supply store only sells dried (pelleted and some leaf) hops, no fresh. Current price is $2.85 an ounce, down from $4.00/oz a year ago.

We planted some cascade this year, can't wait to harvest them and try our hand at using our own hops. Plan is to get rhizomes of a few more varieties in the spring. . .

Thanks! I think I'll get some rhizomes and give 'em a shot next year. Citrusy...hmmm...sounds like they'd be good for a nice summer pilsner...but what do I know, I just like drinking the stuff! I'd love to start a small homebrewing hobby.
