Question Can I glue shells to foam board temporarily with rubber cement?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for a question like this, but I looked at the other forums and it didnt seem to fit well in any of those either.

The title says it all: Can I glue seashells temporarily to foam board with rubber cement? Its for a display, and I'd like for the shells to remain undamaged by the adhesive when I remove them. Rubber cement seems rubbery, so perhaps I could peel it off the shells when I take the display down?

If not rubber cement, then does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I can't say if rubber cement will or won't. My first thought is a product called FabricTac. It's clear. Used for no sew hemming britches and sticking fabrics together. It can be washed in the washing machine too, so it's pretty set when you use it. But it also removes pretty easily, especially if you have a bit of a "glob" and not a thin line.

Glob 'em on there.

how about a hot glue gun??? Test out any other glues you want to use. Alot of them wil react with the foam board and make it melt.

As will hot glue! There is a glue made specifically for foam/styrofoam. I'm sure you can find it at any craft store.

I really don't think rubber glue will work. I've only used it with paper.

Foam board is usually covered with a layer of paper.

Good 'ol Elmers Glue, or a similar white, water-soluble, protein-based glue will work.

Afterward, peel off your shells and soak in a little water to remove the glue.

And now for the Homesteading Today spin on the project...

In stead of using store-bought glue, you can make your own out of milk, vinegar and some baking soda and water:

If the board is uncovered styrofoam, the solvent in the rubber cement approach might dissolve the plastic foam.

Foam board, if you're talking about the cardboard on the outside, with foam inbetween will NOT melt using rubber cement or hotmelt glue. Either will work for you. Rubber cement might not hold the shells as well, butwill be easier to remove later.

A small dab of hotmelt glue will hold a shell really well. If you use the hotmelt glue, use a low temp to be safe.

IF you're talking about actual styrofoam...then you need a glue for use on styrofoam. OR cover the styrofoam with a piece of cloth pinned to the back or something.
