Question Fish emulsion problems?

We were planning to get some fish emulsion for our organic plot, and then a friend told us that the smell will attrack critters, and dogs, who will ruin our garden. Our garden is not fenced. Does anyone have info on this? Also, anywhere in Middle TN to buy it in a store?

I use it on my front flower beds and yes it does attract skunks. They dig a few small holes looking for the dead fish they think are buried in the beds.

On the plus side I have no problem with deers eating my hosta when I use it as a foliar fertilizer.

I buy it at my local lawn and garden store. The brand is Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1.

It has attracted dogs and cats at my house. Where I have my garden, it is fenced, so it's ok. The smell is strong for a couple days, and then dissipates with time. ldc

The smell is strong! My neighbor used it on his garden and I couldn't figure out what it was. I kept walking around to all the flowers trying to figure out which one smelled bad.

My dogs don't like it. At least they are well enough trained to stay out of the garden whether I use emulsion or not. I do not use near as much FE as I used to though b/c it has about quadrupled in price around here.

We use gallons of the stuff and have never had a problem with it. It keeps deer off which is a nice plus, but DH smells nasty when he spills it on his hands and I have to work upwind when he is spraying.

I think it depends on how stong you use it. I used it for years with no problems. I found it in concentrated strength at garden centers. Not box store garden centers.
