Trip to Cabela's

Ok, I admit it, I have a well armed monkey on my back.
I can't walk past a cool gun without plunking down my dwindling cash and taking it home..........
We went to Cabela's yesterday and I made a beeline to the gun counter, mostly out of habit.
I'm used to ogling the expensive stuff and letting it stay with the promise that "Someday, you'll come home with me", but the used gun racks.....................That's where I usually find trouble.
I was doing pretty good, even walked away from the racks for a bit feeling good about getting out of there without a hitch, but then I went back, and there, on the bottom rack...was a pair of Ruger PC9 carbines at a fairly reasonable price.............
I picked them up, one at a time, looked them over, turned them this way and that, peered down the bore, checked the action.............put them down and walked away....
Nice try.......
When you are an addict, it's not that easy, there's a little voice..No, a BIG voice in your head telling you all the reasons you absolutely positively have to score a gun today.
"You drove all the way to town, you should get something for your trouble"
"If you don't buy this you'll regret it"
"It'll fit right into your collection and you have tons of 9mm ammo to feed it"
"It's cool"
"You know you want it, go ahead, buy it"
ALRIGHT ALREADY!!!!!!!! STOP!!!!!!!! I GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!
After all, why shouldn't I get a gun?
I haven't got one for what? 3 weeks or so?
I deserve it right?
The addict can justify his habit, come up with any number of reasons why it's ok to spend this money that probably has more important places to go.......
In the heat of the moment, the utter bliss, the happiness, the euphoric joy of the purchase, the giddy anticipation of loading the mag and ripping off 15 rounds..........
If you aren't an addict, you don't understand, you can't possibly know.......
It's easy to say "Just walk away, be a grown up, hang on to your money"
The sickness just doesn't think that way..............
My name is Cornhusker and I'm a gun addict

Why buy a rifle that shoots a pistol cartridge? Can you not hit with a pistol? I would be going the other way like a 30 caliber carbine pistol. I love to rag people that buy a rifle to shoot a pistol cartridge like a 357 rifle.

Nice (for a Ruger, that is LOL!) I'll stand next to you and admit I'm also a gun addict, no, I'll race you to the gun counter! I also love older guns. I have a Marlin camp 9, it sleeps under my bed. I bought a 30 round mag for it, and wow! can you go through rounds that way- good think DH loves reloading.

Cabela's is less than 15mn away, and we stop in there often just to see what may have wondered in. While often they are they highest price around, we've gotten some really sweet deals too. You just never know what you may find on the used rack or in the used handgun case.

The interesting part of all this is I never even fired a gun until I was over 40, and now at 48 I'm an avid gun enthusiast. It helped that we finally moved to the country and could shoot on our own property. We now have a range set up in the back yard, and love going out for some target practice.

Old Vet - you buy them because they are so fun to shoot! And it's way cheaper to reload for a pistol caliber. I will admit, the 45-70 is a hoot to shoot, but after a few rounds I'm ready to hand it back. I can shoot the 357 or 9mm rifle all day and not get a sore shoulder. We set up targets and then keep moving backwards and seeing who can knock them down the fastest. Yea, we do it with the handguns too, but when you get back a ways, you put them in the holster and pull out the carbine.

Ah, that may be true, and if I only had one rifle, this probably wouldn't be it.
My master plan, that is the master plan of "The Addict" seems to dictate that now I must buy a Ruger pistol that takes the same mag.
It's only logical right?
Besides, it looks good with my 10-22 and Mini-14 and of course my Single Six
Right?
Right?

Yeah, we do a lot of shooting out in the yard too.
I'm gonna set up a regular range one of these days.

I went to Gander Mountain and in a conversation with a clerk, he says "I'm not gun crazy like the other guys here, I only own a few guns". I asked him how many. He says "Just 15".

We went to Cabela's on the 4th of July. I couldn't convince my sister to try a few lures in the aquarium. How am I supposed to know what the fish will bite if she won't test them? I bought a fly rod but still haven't tried it. Maybe this weekend!

DH's car automatically turns into Cabella's whenever he attempts to drive past. He broke his car of that habit a couple years ago when he bought some bullets - just the bullet for reloading no powder - and then tried to board a plane. Hasn't been to Cabella's since. Thankfully. I almost had to drive to Chicago and bail him out of jail.

Tsk Tsk Tsk.

And here I thought that the Gun Of The Month Club only had one charter member. Who also happens to be the prez, vice prez, membership committee and Great Grand Poohba for Life.

My DH.

I thank my lucky stars we don't have a Cabella near us. The last time he bought a new handgun we were on our way back from the dealer he had to pick it up from and on the way home he stopped at another dealer "just to see if they have that rifle I'm looking for."

The new gun hadn't even gotten to the house yet.

Sigh.

Pam

Well, if I woulda had enough money for 2 of these, I probably would have bought another AR.
They also had a Bushmaster pistol there that had a +10 cool factor.
It really wanted to come home with me but I had to leave it for later.

OK you made me jealous. I was going to put up my 40 caliber Smith And Weston but I will not after that.

The dealer shouldn't be asking how many firearms you have, he should be asking what your "Fire Power Index" (FPI) is.

You determine your FPI by adding up the cartridge capacity of all your firearms. You cannot count the round capacity of the extra clips or magazines that you may have. And, you have to count the round capacity of the firearm as it was originally outfitted by the manufacturer. Example: if I have a 25 round mag for my Ruger 10/22, the rifle still only adds 10 points to my FPI...not 25.

For instance, if you have a Ruger 10/22, a .357 revolver and a black powder rifle, your FPI would be 17 (10 + 6 + 1 = 17).

A man of any worth should have a FPI at least equal to his age.

What's your FPI?

It'll take me a while to figure it up, but I did count up what's on the first floor...
Is 394 too low?
Probably another 70 or so upstairs......
I gotta write these down.....

You have an extremely respectable FPI! Mine is a measly 141 (and my FPI includes all of WIHH's guns, too).

We're going to this gun auction in August ==> Gun Auction. Hopefully, I'll be able to add to my FPI then.
