Game Camera recommendation?

Well we thought we had cured our predator problem when we got rid of the raccoon but this weekend we lost our other 2 ducks. Slightly different mo this time there is a trail of feathers out of the pen and down to the abandoned property next to us. So we are going to get a game camera so we can get an idea of what's out there and what time it comes through.

I found some for $50-$60 on the Sportsman's Guide, Timberview brand. I'd like to stay in that price range if possible.

Not familiar with that particular brand, although I did watch the product demo on line. I've had good luck with buying from Sportsman's Guide before, but like everything else, you get what you pay for. $50 seems pretty inexpensive, but I'd consider asking any friends who are hunters if they might happen to already own a game camera, you could borrow for a week. Or you might see if any hunters you know are thinking of purchasing a Moultrie or Cuddie camera...you could pay shipping and handling or a small part, use it a week or two, and then let them have it. Personally, I'd rather spend $100 and have something that works well than spend $50 and have it be poor or worse. Good luck. Ps...I think there are restrictions about where Game cameras can be shipped. I know you can't ship them to Canada. Better look into it first.

My only experience is with that exact cheapo game camera. What I have found is that camera has a delay of a second or so between detecting the motion and taking the photo. Consequently, if the animal is moving the camera will miss taking its picture. We have lots of photos of pure blackness or plain ol' scenery.

why can you not ship a game trail camera to Canada? our local feed store has a great selection! am looking at getting one to prove out wild animal kills as well.

I don't know the reason behind it...I have a Sportsman's Guide catalogue right here in front of me, and none of the game cameras can be shipped to Canada

I don't know anyone who has one unfortunately or anyone interested in buying one. So we will have to spring for it. For $100 or more I am thinking sitting up all night isn't so bad at all.

I bought a Wildview at Walmart, in the sporting goods department. It doesn't take the best quality pics, but works fine. We do get some pics of just scenery, but I think that's mostly when birds trigger it. It was around $50 about a year and a half ago.

We have a motion light with an outlet adapter screwed in before the bulb. Then we plug in a radio to a loud music station. Sometimes you hear it go off at night, but whatever tripped it leaves fast. The light and radio are on for about a minute.

The best camera i've found for speed, price and easy use is the Cudde/back Capture. You can get one at Cabela's for $205. The cheaper ones don't react fast enough for trail use, but work fine for salt licks or feed piles.

It's another raccoon. We didn't have a chance to kill it but we know what it is and when it is coming. I like the baby monitor idea! Much cheaper and it will actually alert us!

I wonder if we are getting an influx of raccoons because they are logging around us?
