Exclamation Craigslist Response to Scammers......?

I'm not saying that this is the way that EVERYONE should handle those typical scammers that we all seem
to get on Craigslist (and elsewhere as well), but this morning, something went "click" inside my head and I just had to
sit down and begin writing and when finished...... I thought maybe some Homesteading Today members might just
like to 'share' it with their tormentors as well......or possibly relate on how ya'll have dealt with them in the past......
other than the obvious which is kick them to the spam room. Below is a copy of the email that I received and following
it is my "response". I'm waiting to hear back from him, so please get those 'suggestions' in soon, so that I can incorporate them into my next letter.

p.s. There is at least one other "clue" that makes it easy to see a scammers form letter as being bogus, but didn't want to reveal ALL my secrets in how to detect them and giving them an edge. It's my ace in the hole......but spelling and proper sentence structure can very helpful in revealing which letter are from scammers who are usually "overseas"..... looking forward to that long "road trip"......

Hey Nick (if that is your "real" name):

You know what is so easy about checking my responses for items that I've listed for sale?
It's the fact that I can spot the ones that "NEED" to go into the spam folder without having
to even read them first!!! They're SO EASY .......but to be fair, I decided to open yours and
see if I was right or not......and I was. First off, it is ONE ITEM, not plural. Second, you never
mentioned what the item(s) is/are that you are interested in......(those generic responses
will have to go, if you really want this scam to work.) Third, I have said just about everything
that needs to be said in my description already......why should I do more especially when you
really have no desire in purchasing the item(s)? Fourth, .......hmmmm, how do I say this with out
making you look.......STUPID?!!!! Guess there really isn't any......you put it out there yourself and
will have to bear the consequences for your actions. There are FOUR (4) .....count them now please
.......4 photos of the item in question. Apparently you never saw them at the bottom of the ad or what?
Because you stated in your first sentence and I quote: "someone directed me here and when I saw your items..."

By the way, who is this "someone" who keeps directing scammers to my ads; I need to have a special "place"
set aside for them, in my basement ......(a little chamber of horrors if you will) I've got plans on what I'd like
to do to them if and when I catch them? There's a small reward in it for you if you'll drop a dime on them and
give me a name/address!!! But let's keep this on the hush-hush and just between the two of us.....mm'k?

And lastly, the final price is the same price that was posted in the listing.....
you do remember what that was don't you?
Well......no problem, just go back and sort thru the mounds of responses and eventually you'll find it.
Then get back to me and we'll go over your presentation again. If we work on it together,
I might just find out where YOU live and then ........we'll ......we wouldn't want to spoil that surprise now would we?
Might not have to pay you for snitching on that "someone" that pointed you towards my ad......but not to
worry about that.....you can stop by and tell me all about it when you come by, with CASH IN HAND
to pick the "item" up in person, as that is the ONLY WAY that I will be selling it to you......
have a very nice day Nick and remember, there are ways that we can find you over the web.
Eventually, I'm going to have a free day (after I snap from being hounded by scammers )
and I'll take ALL that time and ENERGY that I've wasted previously answering these bogus "inquiries"......
and will take the steps necessary to track down ALL of you characters and then will start a long road trip
to "visit" each and every one of you.....IN PERSON......since you never seem to get around and follow thru
on your promises to send me an actual check or money order. Best wishes until that time comes..... and we'll be seeing ya........real soon!

Don't waste your breath. Your email won't even be read. They are posting thousands of responses like this a day hoping to dupe someone and they aren't going to waste time reading your angry reply. They get plenty of them.

I saw a site once where a group is trying to catch spammers who do some of the more heinous scams (like the Nigerian Prince is going to give you a million $$). What they are trying to do is see how much time and resource they can waste of these people by stringing them along. You have to be careful if you try it yourself as they can be dangerous people. It's called "scam baiting" and the results lead to some funny reading:

Waste of time. Its much more fun to string them along and make them think you may be interested (ie. stupid). See how much info they will give you if they think you took the bait.

I figure my time is more valuable than theirs and just block the scammers. Some are pretty funny though. We get plenty of scammers wanting us to ship hay feeders to Norway, for instance. Someone in the Mideast wanted my Katahdin ram for big bucks. Riiiiiiiiiight.

As they haven't a clue to who you are, I vote that you direct them to your 'favorite' legislator, TV personality or even to your state's attorney general's office. My oh my, won't they be surprised.

Watch out in giving any kind of reply. They also sell your information to make a nickel. The advertising industry has been paying for this information for years. The guys on the other end send out 1,000,000 form letters, get 10,000 angry replies back from VALID e-mail addresses, put the information into a data base, and then sell said information at .05 per line. So 10,000 x .05 = $500.00 not bad for a days work..... and we thought they were stupid because they could not spelll.

AFAIK, replying just provides them with a valid email that they can use/sell later. Best to just delete right away.

If I replied to every spamscam that I get, I'd do nothing else in this world.

If only there were a way to get the scammers to show up 'in person'... I think I could break them of their evil ways...

Just curious, what kind of "chamber of horrors" are you planning in your basement? Can I direct some door-to-door salesmen over and while I'm at it, a few telemarketers?
