How'd everyone do at the farmer's market?

Ours started at 8 am - this is our town's first farmer's market & my first time selling at a farmer's market

I was sold out by 8:45 am

I need more chickens! I could've sold at least another 10-15 doz eggs

I was also selling zucchini, potted herbs & knitted dishcloths

I sold out of zucchini, sold a few herbs & dishcloths

It was fun to be involved - a lot of people from the community came out - there was live music to enjoy

It was a lot of work for not very much money, but maybe as the season progresses it will seem more worth it, as I'll have more veggies, but what I really need is more laying chickens!

I'm curious how everyone else did?

(I'll also post this in the garden forum)

I'm waiting on my state required egg license, which is required to sell eggs at farmers markets here.

Just curious. What do eggs sell for at farmers markets, in your area?

Glad you did so well.

In the greater Houston area eggs will go for anything between $3-5 a dozen.

We sell at three markets on Saturday. The one in Austin we did really well at. The main one in Houston was mediocre. The new, small one in Houston was our first time and it was very promising!

It was also our first time to sell cheese in the big Houston market which made it more disappointing, I thought we'd do much better.

I have been selling mine to family/friends for $3/doz....but in order to sell at the farmer's market I had to buy new cartons, which cost me $0.39/ea, so I upped my cost to $3.50/doz......no one batted an eye at the price.....I also had a little sign that said if they re-use their carton, they get a 50c discount.

We don't have to have a license here in PA (we're small-scale) but there are temperature requirements & a few other minor requirements

do you have to pay for your license?
do you sell other stuff at your market?

The "cheese lady" at our market was by far the busiest seller there - her line was very long!

Maybe word will travel & you'll do better next time?
Hope so -

County had their first 'officially sponsored' one last Saturday AM. Three vendors and a 4-H egg seller.

Two of the vendors typically set up in town during the week, so going there was just a temporary change in location. Third was a young couple apparently selling garden surplus.

Sponsor is the local Ag Agency. Held at the fairgrounds, which is under the Soil Conservation District. Ag Agency used TN Dept. of Ag rules, fairly strictly enforced. Egg seller didn't even have them refrigerated. Just a cooler without apparently even ice.

I just don't get the impression it will have legs.

In Indiana, if you sell your eggs anywhere else than your own farm, you are required to have a state "egg license". It's $30 per year.

The Farmers market charges $5 per day for a space.

We have not sold other items yet, as our garden has just started producing.
