Remote homemade wasp spray device.

You can easily make a remote spraying tool by attaching a can of wasp spray and a strap hinge near the end of a 1" X 2" board such as a furring strip. A string fastens to the strap hinge which is pulled over onto the spray button to dispense the spray from a few feet from the nest, i.e. the length of the board.

Crude drawing.

That looks like a great idea, but chemical sprays are a no no at my house. We bought one of these and hung on the side of the house because we had so many wasp nests in behind our house shutters that were swarming around the back door. This trap actually works almost too well as we haven't even seen a wasp, other than when we dump this and refill to hang again....

When I've painted big old houses in summers past, the best thing for wasps was garden hose. They cant fly when wet and the water will destroy their nests. But unless there is a necessity, I leave nature alone. Had a hornet nest over my front door one summer. Fascinating to watch. I was here when they came and I didnt bother them so they just accepted me as part of their surroundings. They'd get bit busy if I shut door little too hard, but calmed down quick. Now anybody else got within any distance of that nest and they better run fast.. Kept away the riffraff.....

That is kinda cool. Maybe you are onto something, like domesticated wasps. Or maybe not...

Well thankfully I haven't had need to use one of those devices for 30 years. I posted it to another forum and thought it might as well go here too.

About the only thing I get around my place is mud daubers and I co-exist with them well. I did find a wasp nest recently as I stepped down off of a ladder and discovered that my belly had been within inches of their hidden nest. I came back for the ladder later. The nest is still there.

That's a pretty neat idea, but today's wasp sprays will spray 20 feet. No need to get that close.

Bald faced hornets make the most aggressive wasps look like sissies.... Wasps here in the south tend to be pretty laid back compared to wasps in the north. But the hornets are just as aggressive as they are anywhere.
