DW got one of them Garmin Nuvi for free as a result of one of the local banks promotional schemes. Coolest thing for driving since am/fm radio!

I'm sure the novelty will wear off, but for now I even set a course in it to go places I already know how to get to. There's something fascinating about the fact that "she" knows right where I am at all times Gotta stop arguing with "her" though, DW thinks thats a little odd

Mine won't hold a charge long. Hope yours is better at this.

Dh won a TomTom in a raffle. It's nice that I no longer need to read the map for him.

I have a Garmin - I chose the male Brit voice and we call it James because the voice sounds just like James May (Captain Slow). I like to just have it on map with no route planned and I set my icon as a tank. Yes, I love it!

I love my Garmin too and use it just for fun even if I know where I'm going. We used it to go to an out-of-the-way animal preserve, messed up the settings somehow - it took us round and round and round but by gosh it got us there after going miles out of our way on winding up and down country roads.

I purchased a Magellen about a year ago for my various trips. I love it. Before I purchased it, on one trip from the airport to the destination took 3 1/2 hours (directions from rental car help) Everyone else got to destination in 2 hours!!

Last spring I used it traveling in Illinois and it was so easy returning to O'Hare compared to the year before! We now take side trips off interstate with out worry of how to get where we want to be.

I am not really a gadet person but this GPS thing is the best! I travel with some older friends as the designated driver, this has made me feel much more comfortable when I am out in strange areas! We have nick named it "Maggie". The cost has really come down on the various units it was well worth the purchase price.

I love my Garmin and want to share a tip. I've used it going places I clearly know how to get to, because it shows me the shortest route. Save gas by checking, you might be surprised there is a shorter way to a familar place.

My wife go one for Christmas, we call it her German Nudie. Don't take it for Gospel, especially in areas of new road construction. It's only as good as the maps they are using. Still, we've found some pretty obscure places without having to stop for directions. Priceless.

The thing is this with dh, he listens to "her" but did he listen to me EVER when I told him to turn or take an exit when using a map?

I have a Nuvi widescreen and Loooooove it. I'm always going different places with the carriage gigs and don't have to read the maps or squint for road signs anymore. I just have to listen for wherever "Minnie" tells me to go. It's a lifesaver seeing where my route is when I've got a 40 foot trailer behind me and don't have to worry about Uturns to find the place.

I got a Tomtom and love it as well.
I am the kind of person that can get lost going around the corner and this has changed my life when it comes to traveling.

We got one last year. I thought it would be a waste of $$ but DH wanted a new toy!!!! Well I admit I was totally WRONG!! It is a great gizmo!!
But it gets frustrated as us cause we will put in a place to go and then want to stop someplace to eat and turn, it keeps saying recalibrating or something like that!! Over and over again. I really think she is angry at us like, "I tell you the right way to go and you just ignore it.....so I am going to tell you the wrong way, see if you like it!!!!"

We just used our new Nuvi for our recent trip to OK.

Just a few hiccups...and one thing we learned the hard way. We won't just put in a city for a destination anymore.

I spelled dh on the driving and was pretty tense driving the new p/u and it was the first time I've pulled the 5th wheel. Told him I didn't want to drive in the cities.

It was the first time he was the passenger trying to use/read the GPS. We turn the volume off on ours.

I'd put in Clovis NM thinking I could just read the signs when we got there and stay on the highway, but dh got frantic reading the GPS and kept yelling "Turn here...turn there". We wound up w me pulling the 5th wheel through downtown Clovis until I realized where we were.

It took us right to City Hall. Lesson learned. We call our Gips.

In OK we followed her directions all the way right up to the "bridge closed" sign on a country road. That was challenging to get out of.

But we like it too.

They will get me within a thousand yards. Love it. They do not always go the shortest route. My nav toggle in the Honda car broke and I was quoted $4,500 to fix. Tom Tom works just fine

DW talked me into one Garmin Nuvi. I could have cared less at the time but now I love the thing. Reason being? I am the only map reader and usually the driver. And for those of you who have a map illiterate DW. You know what I am talking about. I don't use it much around here since I know every road for 100 miles in any direction. But in the cities it has saved me many traveling arguments. Priceless. Hehe.
