Heat Is Taking Its Toll

5 weeks of days in the mid 90's to 106's and no rain to bring a respite, with the forecast of more of the same is really taking its toll on the stock, the gardens, and most of all on the rabbits. Rabbits have been getting 1-2 frozen 2 liter bottles of water each day, but they are suffering. The only things doing well are the tomatoes, squash and Cukes. The corn and beans have dried up - they weren't planted through black plastic mulch which has been a godsend for keeping enough water in the plants, for long enough to do any good. Fig trees are losing leaves, citrus leaves curl each day but are hanging on. Apples will turn out the size of ping pong balls. The only fruit thriving is the cactus apples on my Opuntia Robustos (giant prickly pear from the Galopagos Islands. It makes prickly pear fruit (called tunas) that are bigger than baseballs. Makes great jam - yum. It never gets too hot for them. The paddles of this catus are 12- 18 ainches in diameter and 2-3 inches thick.

Please pray for a break in the weather and some rain.

Wow we are a varied bunch aren't we. Ones a freezing and ones a burning up. Now if someone can pinpoint that area between you two it should be a great place to live!lol.
The catus fruit sounds good. I guess you adapt to use the fruits of your area. Painter is your summer already over or just never got there?
We are hot here in Tn (in the ninetys) but have had some rain this summer so its still lush. I'm still mowing twice a week.Gardens are doing pretty good so far this year. I picked aquart of lucious blackberries this morning, now need to pick green beans.
You all stay cool or warm which ever the case may be!
