Depends on what you mean. If you mean it went through the softener as all of your other household water does, then yes. I have been doing so without ill effect toward the plants. The faucet I use for watering is connected by a long run of pipe with the kithen, and I didn't want to spend time and money running another long run from the main line coming from the well just for that faucet.

Now if you are talking about the water that is used during a recharge, then no. I let the first couple recharges spill out into the yard until I got a trech with dug for pipe to the ditch, my grass is just now growing back right after 2 years.

Sure Soft Water should not hurt the plants.

Our outside taps bypass the water softener. It might not hurt the plants, but if we're talking about a lot of plants or a large garden it probably would waste salt and take a toll on the equipment. Depending on how everything is piped, it might be cheaper in the long term to spend some money on modifying the plumbing.

Please foregive me for asking, but why do you want to do that? Is the unsoftened water too acid or too alkali or something?

.
