How many more are there???????

Raccoons that is. Shot 8 so far this season. #9 is currently awaiting disposal. Add to that 2 groundhogs and a mole. I am so sick of killing critters!

Then squirrel season starts Sept 1 and I just may go deer hunting from the guest house. After all the deer come right to the side door.

I don't know where they all came from this year. I have also had to kill 6 and will most likely get a few more. They are so bold this year also. All of the ones I have gotten has been on the porch. Good luck getting rid of them. Sam

I'm sure they think the same thing about humans.

Seeing lots of coon signs too this year. They come around to feast on the cherries and see what else might be on the menu. Haven't kept count but I found out that tack strips you would use for carpet are a good, cheap deterent. I nailed a few onto the rabbit pen and found a clump of hair on one the other day. Guess all the sharp tacks didn't feel too good on his paws.

Can't put tack strips in the duck pens though. I have to set the trap there again, had little footie prints all over the pen yesterday morning.

On the bright side, I think the groundhog problem may be solved. Got a big old one this morning.

# 1..if you have any pet or bird food out..take it in at night..clean up any dropped seeds..don't put garbage in your compost for a couple weeks until well rotted..

be careful of what things are drawing them to your home

We're at 14 racoons this year and counting. They do seem particularly bad this year. But even worse, last year I had to deal with a skunk and last night it appears another is in the porch area. So I need to set the live trap, but cringe to think of dealing what I catch. Did it once, but don't want to do it twice. I have never shot a gun or rifle, so probably not a good time to learn shooting in to a cage. Usually we relocate them far in to the mountains away from everyone. But my last experience still makes me nauseated even thinking of smelling that spray over and over again. Yuck. Give me a growling racoon any day.

I know what is drawing the critters in, but it can't be helped. With the g-hogs it's my garden (got another one Friday) and with the coons it's the location. Too many places for them to den up and too much natural food. Any time you live near a creek in the woods you will have raccoons, at least in Ohio. And any time you grow a garden near the woods you will have g-hogs. The best you can do is keep the population down a bit and eliminate the trouble makers.
