Spray w/an orange oil solution. Won't be as toxic as most insecticides.

If you don't care about the adjacent plants, a couple pots of boiling water does the trick in my yard for the fire ant hills. It doesn't do any more damage to the grass than having the ants cover it in dirt, but the hot water may damage the roots of more fragile plants.

I doubt that they are fire ants in Canada. Boiling water works but if you don't kill them all or the queen, they'll be back.

I was looking for an organic way to get rid of ant hills and found this in a book about organic housekeeping. At night, use a shovel to dig into the hill then pour boiling water in it. The ants are not active at night. I have done this before but not at night but am going to try it.
