Question Wondering what kind of spider bit me?

I was weeding in the garden last Tuesday. I had been out there several hours and I started to feel sick like you would if the heat was getting to you. So I headed for the house and halfway there I got too sick to walk and thought I might have heatstroke. So I sat down for awhile then forced myself on into the house and felt bad all evening. The next morning I woke myself up scratching the inside of my thigh. When I looked there was a red, raised, 50 cent sized lump with a dark gray hole in the middle of it. All around this was tiny yellow blisters and a flat red area palm sized. I don't think we have brown recluses here in WV but that gray hole of necrotized flesh looked like a recluse bite I got in S.C. The funny thing is I never felt anything when it bit me. It was several hours before it bothered me. Wonder what it was? Its getting better now- no more itching or swelling. Just a small lump. The gray area closed up and looks normal now. With my brown recluse bite I was really ill and the necrotized area continued for weeks. The kids run around in the garden all day with me so I'm somewhat worried they'll get bit.

it's possible you could have recluse down there. they have made it as far north as pa via shipping and transportation. i'm not sure how well they overwinter, but who knows? i forget the name, but there is a small, creepy looking little "bulbous" spider that is said to make people sick when bitten. it is brown or gray with a plump, rounded or oval body and likes to hang out in basements, foundations and rock piles. i see lots of those here on the pa/md state line.

It could be that bulbous one you described, I've seen some that look like that here. They scurry out if you move the straw around. Ugly creepy little booger too. Thanks for telling me about the recluses, I didn't know they livedthis far north.

Spiders must be bad this year. Tuesday we had to take a cat to the vet for an abcess under his chin. He's our barn cat and the vet was pretty sure he had a spider bite. First I'd ever heard of a cat getting bit by a spider! Guess I better start being more careful in my garden!

Glad your bite is getting better.

I've seen way too many black widows in my roses, and a couple of weeks ago I looked out and saw this:
OOPS ... link didn't work ... I'll try again later.

Brown Recluse. I was bitten in ND when we went to Sturgis. I woke in the morning and my Kidneys were bothering me. Being that we were ridieng from Wash. state to Mich. I had good reason to think it was a Kidney infection. Immed. got on antibotics. My wrist was itching. About 20 hrs. later, it was a round raised area about the size of a half dollar. Flat in the center. It started to blacken. DH knew what it was. Called the Derma. he wouln't belive it. Went to the hosp. they said my white cell count was outragious, and wanted to give me a Blood transfusion. I said no. Called the poison control center. they had very little knowlage but kept calling me back. I started treating it with Apis (hompath.) This bite can be very serious and Kill you, Please get help. BR's are moveing arround the country as people pack and move, with lots of people using storage units. Look at pics. of what a bite can do and Get Help now.

Here's what I saw at our place a few weeks back. I rescued the bird and let the spider live, though now when I mow under that big pine tree where the web was, I get all creepy feeling.

Anyone know what kind of spider this is?
