Wood pile making noises...

While walking by the wood pile DH split this winter, we heard clicking sounds, and noticed piles of sawdust all over the place. Are these post hole beetles? Or something else? Anybody have this happen? It was weird!

I heard my pine trees making noises up in the branches. First one than the other...

I bet I went out there with a flashlight 10 times with the first tree looking for what was up there. It soon died and we had it taken down. Then a few weeks later I heard it in another pine. Yep, that one was dead soon too.

We have those guys, too! They have voracious appetites. So far they haven't got into the logs of our home, but I get nervous. We haven't found them in live trees. They seem to be the larva of something.

Since you found sawdust there has to be holes in the wood. How big are the holes?

This is a helpful link for identifying and treating for wood-eating bugs:

Ours look a lot like the old house borer. Fortunately, they have stuck with firewood & fence posts.
