Boys will be boys.....

Today I got to witness the funniest moment in history ( where is the darn camera when you need it)

While standing at the kitchen sink, I see my son wander past with the tree trimmer OK so that isn't that odd. Then I see the propane torch wander by.... The door opens "mom can i get some matches" At this point I ask what he is doing. "ohh just picking cherries" was the reply. Well you know and I know that picking cherries has never involved flames...

So I sneak out the front door to see what is really going on.. My husband and son put the torch on the end of the tree trimmer and were lighting hornets nests on fire!!!!!!
Well do you know what happens when hornets get their little bottoms burned????..( Apparently it enrages them to have their homes burned out of cherry trees.).. Who knew.....

Those little fellers flew directly down the trimmer pole at mach 12!! Needless to say there was a whole lot of girly screaming, alot of bites and a mom who almost wet her pants!!!

Hornets 1 Boys 0

I still dont have any cherries in the house either.....

Have you thought of giving them a chainsaw? Cutting down the tree sounds less painful and dangerous than torching hornets and as a bonus, you can get cherries to the house.

gee, sounds like ya got two boys there! can recall climbing on top of a baler too lop a branch with a swarm of honey bees on it and having it fall onto my back and onto the ground where my brother was standing! luckily they stayed in a ball and only one or two came off too see what was up! better than the next day when i went to get the round bales and a bear was walking around that area! (did get the hive rehomed but they flew the coop a few months later!)
spent the night at emerg as my son and his friends were playing football with a garden ornamental plastic turtle at a party last night, those things can slice open your skin as slick as a knife! (heres yer sign boy!) three stitches and a lot of ribbing later (plus a 3 hour wait!) we got home today!

I love a family that lets "boys be boys". My wife and I have watched our two sons do/try some very foolish attempts. In my opinion it allows their minds to expand in ways that formal education will never be able to do.

In addition, as you said, gave us hours of stories to tell and recall.

Omg! That is so funny!
I read your post and I was "visually" seeing it and started laughing out loud. Hubby looked at me and told him I read a post and I could see him and Beccy (our middle daughter) doing the exact same thing. I read the post to him and he just gave me that look that said "And?". Thanks for the laugh!!

My daughter did a report on hornets (social bees - social to EACH OTHER - not us) several years ago. And I think it said they can empty a hive of 30,000 hornets in 5 seconds! I bet you son never knew what happened! Shocked him!
Thanks for sharing!

It really was a "had to be there" moment. I havent laughed that hard in a long time. I still get the giggles just thinking about those two rocket scientists out there. Honestly there are times you wish the good Lord had not invented duct tape....The sight of those two huddled over the pole strapping the torch on with magical silver tape...Then all the squeeling and running O MY!!!!! But we did learn they can both high jump over an electric fence given the proper incentive

Water hose is a better alternative because they don't wanna drown and it tears down the nest faster than anything plus they won't sting. Found this out from personal experience.

I don't think this operation was about practicality I think there was a wee bit of experimentation and a slight danger angle to it. The little nozzles made me so proud
