I just caught 4 or so episodes of Make this morning on PBS. Normally not up that early watching T.V. so it was quite a cowinkydink since DH bought me a copy of the mag for my birthday on Friday. Wasn't until I read the magazine that I realized there was a show too.
I balked at first since the magazine retails for $14.99 but he insisted since I have been talking about an article concerning a new manual clothes washer design in this month's issue. I am planning on building a mock up of the design featured in Make to compare to the method we have been using for a few months now. Curious to see which method produces a cleaner wash along with ease of use. Currently I use an adapted toilet plunger in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid.
I have to confess that the majority of the show & articles in the mag are for the most part over my head, not anytime soon will I wire my garden into my PC to monitor growing conditions but the topics do get a person to thinking which leads to hacking which leads to a great invention.
We are considering taking up a years subscription since there is a section devoted to permaculture/substainablity/homesteading.

I caught most of the episodes as they were broadcast in sequence several times.

Great shows that I found quite fascinating. Much of the electronics were over my head as I had never heard of many of the components.

How I wish such shows would have been around when I was a kid with a whole lifetime of tinkering, building from imagination, etc. Thankfully my brothers and I were allowed much play time and we all became good builders of something from nearly nothing, i.e. reassigning tasks to little pieces parts as I like to call them.

Taking a pile of metal and making something gives great satisfaction. Simply fixing something that is broken or not working right nearly gives the same.

Yes, good shows.

being a bit geeky and a science buff I have a lot of the componants already .
My eldest wants to make a solar bot so I will need to come up with the discharge controler .
I really miss the old tinker toys and erector sets , Id love to find a good chemistry set for the girls but everything these days is very watered down.
may have to put one together for them myself .
