Bought book on Ebay -it reeks of marijuana!

I got a good deal on a book that sells new for about $60.00.

It reeks of marijuana! I tried reading and couldn't make it through the first page, because the smell is so strong!

I just took it outside and opened it up and put it in the sun, hoping the smell will dissipate.

Any suggestions?

Take a very deep breath, and try again.

Leave it in the garage longer. Maybe you could put baking soda near it??

Be careful throwing that book in the car and cruising the main drag.

Or the interstate. Keep your ebay documentation.

Put it in a sealed Ziploc bag with a couple of charcoal pieces, and leave it there for a week or so. The charcoal will absorb the odor (do not use the instant ignite type of charcoal). Use a whole bag of charcoal (just cut the bag open down one side as its laying on its side) to remove odors from a car (works well for dead body stench). Note: do not use the charcoal to cook with later, toss it.

Smoke it!

Seriously there's not much else you can do besides putting it in the sun to air out, unless you want to make it stinky with something else to mask it.

You could spritz some pieces of paper towel with Listerine or strong scented essential oils, let them dry and then put the papers in between the pages.

You could literally smoke it by putting it on a rack inside an enclosed smoking chamber and then smoulder some strong scented woods or herbs beneath it. Smouldering sage is very effective, as is cedar, hickory or lavender.

I think cat litter is supposed to pull smells out of things. Put the book in a plastic bag or bin with enough litter to cover it for a while.

Take cat liter and put on the bottom of a ziplock baggie. place book on top and seal. Place bag in the sun for a couple of hours.

Or

place charcoal, baking soda, or cat liter in the bottom of a plastic tub with lid. Place book, open on a baking rack above the odor absorber. Put lid on tub and leave for a few days. open occasionally to check.

Or

put newspaper (a few days old) between the pages. crumple newspaper and place newspaper and pieces of charcoal into box, place book in center. Close box, leave and smell occasionally. Remove when ordors are gone.

I have also used baking soda in the bag.

Seal it in one of those really large ziploc freezer bags, or a small rubbermaid container, open, and sprinkled liberally with fresh coffee grounds.

Oh, and... given the smell in question, I would suggest you not use the coffee grounds to make coffee after

Sam

Sam, I don't know if I ought to be impressed or freaked out by this.

I'm "wondering" what kind of feedback you're planning on leaving the seller....

Or have you considered contacting eBay for "suggestions"???

When I saw the suggestion about smoking it, I could picture the OP tearing it up in itty bitty strips and rolling it up..

Put book in bag, add cat litter and some baking soda and seal. Leave for a week and take out. Toss cat litter and baking soda into the kitty litter box if you have one, if not, use somewhere else.

Rinse and repeat as necessary.

What was the topic of the book in question if I may be so nosy and how do you know what pot smells like? lol...

Personally I think I would ask for a refund.

If not I'd probably toss it. While it is unlikely that police will ever be at your house with a drug sniffing dog I simply wouldn't take the chance for further harassment.

Newsprint is supposed to remove musty smell from books perhaps it would work for other smells. Tedious stuff ripping newsprint and putting it between each page but if it is a valuable book

Easy - put the book back up for bid on ebay, noting prominently that it reeks of marijuana.

I doubt the previous owner didn't read the book since they probably too high to concentrate. As far as drug dogs go, almost every piece of paper money in the US has traces of dope. Does the book look like it might have gotten wet? Maybe they spilled their bong.
