Post What can I do with about a hundred....

Plastic 35mm film containers.? They are black plastic with gray lids. I need some justification to keep them and not throw them away.

I am throwing enough stuff away as it is.

Use them to store very fine seeds from flowers and the like. we use them to store A varity of small nuts bolts/screws ,washers and the like. Also if you wash them out real well , use them for camping matches and other items you need to keep dry. like salt and pepper.

Back when I used the laundry and washed my Jeep I used them to hold my quarters. IIFC they hold about $7 or $7.50. I also use them to hold seeds and small screws and other little things. Seems every time I get rid of them I find I need one.

Just curious, which state do you happen to be moving to?

Donate them to the Girl Scouts?

When I was a GS we made little emergency kits that fit into a film canister. It had a needle and thread, a sliver of soap, bandaids, some matches dipped in wax and some tiny tweezer things that were made out of some kind of metal pin. The film canisters were metal back then..it was a long time ago...lol

I measure out black powder loads for hunting.
I put split shot and tiny hooks in them.
Let the kids play with them.

I saw a YouTube clip of someone making light tubes using 2L soda bottles and they used film canisters on the top for some reason.

Local gradeschool science teacher.
Seems every other experiment/project involves a 35mm film canister.

Portable pill bottle, little batteries, stamps.

Used to be you could buy plastic snap top shaker lids that fit film canisters for camping salt and pepper shakers. I've looked and looked for those shaker tops the last couple of years and can't find them anymore. With my luck if I did find them I wouldn't be able to find the film canisters anymore either. darn it.

When I was a kid, we'd make firecrackers out of them. 4th of July is coming up.

i see taking a board and fastening ..probably with a screw and washer..each top to the board from the underside..and then screwing the baord up or using it as a shelf..and use a paint pen to mark what is what on the cannisters and store small things..either in the garage such as nuts, washers, tacks, etc..or in the craft area for small buttons, needles, pins, tacks..etc..

I had Walmart save film canisters for me. This is the mini sewing kit that I taught them to make for crafts here at the RV Park. It has a pin cushion on the lid. (sorry the pics are so big)
the whole mini kit laid out to view

super cheap and easy to make, and are handy to give as gifts for the holidays or sell in a craft fair.

I remember using them to make an "Oscar the Grouch" craft when I was little. The film canisters were like his trash can, you see. We glued some googly eyes onto a green pom-pom, and then glued the green pom-pom into the top of the canister. Then we glued the lid onto the top of Oscar's head. It was a cute little craft.

Thanks for the replys. I actually will be keeping all of them, just needing some ideas of what to use them for.

I do use them to keep change in instead of loose in my pockets. I used to use little plastic coin pouches, but the PVC in them made the coins get ----y and green.

Seeds is a good idea, I know I have lots of packets that I am unable to plant for the time being.

I am in the process of moving from West Central NM to TX. Elevation was too high for my wife [7500'].

Black powder containers/ firecrackers. Eh... sounds explosive!!

I have made up several of them to be matchholders. I take a book of matches, take the cover off, cut the matchsticks in half, cut off the striker, and place in the can. Put one in every bag, fanny pack, Computer back etc I have. To be more clear, I cut in half where the matchbook staple used to be.

Keep them coming, I am still looking for the tiptop use.
