Amarillo or Ft Worth, TX? Which one is better?

Will be graduating with a certificate in cnc machining and probably going back in for 1 more year to get my A.A.S. In Machining Tech. Economy is so bad in Wichita they theylve basically laid off probably close to 30 thousand people that used to do the same type of jobs that I am in school for. For this very reason, I'm starting to apply for jobs out of KS. One such company is Bell Helicopter which has different plants all over TX. I am trying to make a decision between those two cities. My wife was recently diagnosed with a rare genetic blood disorder (Protein S Deficiency) and more than likely a 2nd blood disorder. We will need to live in an area that has a hemaologist (blood doctor) so that's one consideration. Personally I've not been to Amarillo at all. I grew up in the DFW area so I do know the Ft Worth area fairly well. Any ideas or feedback about both towns?

if you're looking to find a good hematologist dr area then some of the best are in Lubbock, TX. That's approx 2 hours from Amarillo.

Of the two choices given, I'd choose the DFW area ... I grew up there, too, and would welcome the familiarity

I hope your wife receives the care she needs, and gets better soon.

Lived in Metroplex. Visited the High Plains. My vote would be FORT WORTH. Rent your place before ya move. I shore like pioneer days.

I don't know either place, but would say to stay in a place you know. In times of uncertainty, go with what you know...Hope all goes well...best of luck

The weather in Amarillo will be more like what you are used to. Maybe more snow.
Ft Worth will have more specialists, I'd think...used to call on Hemotologists and there are several in the DFW area.

Good luck & prayers-
Patty

.............I'd vote for Amarillo, cause it's alot closer too NMexico , and Colorado . It's also large enough too offer the medical services that your wife will need and I'd think the economy is diversified enough to offer you stable employment .
.............OTOH , I live five miles west of Benbrook in Whiskey Flats and I'm just far enough out in the "Sticks" that I feel like I'm in the country . Truthfully , I'll admit I enjoy the Access I have to the benefits that a large Metro area offers . I don't enjoy the traffic but sometimes I just get in my truck and in 10 minutes I'm at the Harley store looking at scooters , I can't afford . But , I use to go down to Peytons Hobbies in Midland , tx and look at the Cushman eagles in the sixties and Lust after them as well , lol ! , fordy

I would chose Ft. Worth. Baylor Medical Center is close by in Dallas. I also like the fact that Ft. Worth has things like...trees. lol. Amarillo is way too barren for my taste.

Ummm, no, Wichita's climate is more similar to that of the DFW area. Amarillo is much further west, and get's a lot less moisture than Wichita or DFW does. Amarillo's climate is more like Dodge City's or Liberal's than it is Wichita's climate. It's a High Plains area where DFW and Wichita are more marginal because they are both well east of the 100th meridian.

One thing though...snows in Amarillo almost every year while it doesn't in Ft. Worth. That much I know. I have started to like snow :-)

I would choose Ft. Worth for medical reasons as well as the area is wonderful. Also, I imagine that should the job you take to move does not work out as planned ( often happens in new career fields) then the opportunity in that area for other work would be better than in Amarillo... some really nice homestead towns around Ft. Worth. I personally love Weatherford area...

I have good news to report! My wife went back to the hemaologist yesterday to complete her visit and to get results of the blood tests. The doctor had to apologize to her and told her that for whatever reason....the blood tests showed that she was negative for ANY blood disorders! :banana02: He said her blood clot was most likely related to being pregnant. He said she could choose to have more kids but would likely have to self-inject blood thinners again during the entire pregnancy so at this point, we're not anxious to have more kids.

So I guess this takes out a lot of stress for us. Now I'm doing more research, lol.

Good news with your wife!!
Well, you won't get the kind of snow in Wichita that you might get in Ft Worth. I was in Wichita one year with all that snow, what a shocker for this gal. My Dad worked for Bell and I have lived in and around the DFW area, White Settlement, Grand Prairie, Alvarado. I would choose FT Worth over Amarillo ( I have no knowledge of the place), job wise and medical needs. Plenty of small country towns outside of FT Worth within reasonable driving distance.

I'd choose Ft Worth too, but that's because my daughter and grandson live nearby in Rhome...a nice little town.

I've never been to Amarillo, but I did like living in the DFW area (except for all the people and the traffic).

I live about three hours north of Amarillo. Do yourself a favor, choose something east of there where it rains, grass and trees grow, where there are lakes, ponds and streams that actually have water in them.

Not much of choice to either I would think. I am very familiar with the Metroplex, it is flat out crowded.

Amarillo is dry, flat, windy and cold in winter. Very brown.

Is there anything in Austin area?I'd recommend that .
