Is spoiled pasteurized milk safe to use?

I have 1/2 gallon of store bought whole milk that is sour and thickening. Is it safe to use (like unpasteurized milk)?

If it's sour, rather than rancid, you can use it in cooking and baking like butter milk.

I would throw it out if its getting thick.

If it still looks normal but just starting to taste sour, I use it for cooking.

I would say no, you don't have any idea of what soured it.

Pasteurized milk doesn't have the beneficial bacteria to kill harmful bacteria like raw milk does. If it smells bad or tastes bad, that means bad bacteria are taking over. I wouldn't use it. If you like to live on the wild side, you could try it and see if you get sick.

Just smell it. If it smells SOUR, it will be fine for cooking. If it smells rotten, like PEE-YEW!(insert pukey smiley) then toss it out.

Whenever a jug of milk soured on my ex wife or now on my girlfriend, I mix it with a half pint or pint of cultured buttermilk and let it turn. Like I have told them both, as long as I can turn it into cultured buttermilk, it didn't go bad

From my understanding with milk - RAW milk doesn't actually "get bad" - it just changes form and can be used in whatever current "form" it is.

On the other hand, milk from the store or that has been pasteurized has had any beneficial bacteria killed. This milk actually does get bad and for want of the proper word - gets rotten.

This is what I thought, so I'm going to err on the safe side and not use it.
The dogs will be happy to get a treat of spoiled milk. Thanks to all who gave me answers.
