Small Business Association.

Many books will tell you how to write a business plan. Even the Small Business KIt for Dummies that I have, which also comes with a disk with over 250 documents.

You don't say what kind of a business, usually you have to be specific if you're writing a plan.

Good luck.

There's also a book company called NOLO, that does legal and business plans and info. You can find their books in public librairies and they are on-line too. ldc

I write business plans for a living and have found that for a quick, basic out line, you can go to the SBA website (sba.gov) and do a search in their site for sample business plan. They have alphabetized templates that you can copy and paste into a word document and then modify to suit your business idea. Try to choose a plan that is somewhat in the same field as what it is that you want to do, it makes it easier.

A tip from what I've learned to be true. Folks usually start out writing a business plan to help convince other people to lend or invest money, but the process of writing the business plan will really help you look at your ideas in detail and decide if you have a good chance of success. You can learn a lot by doing a thorough job, and you can also figure out what your weaknesses are and how to fix them.

Last time I did one I figured out that what looked like a great idea to me and everyone else I had talked to about it was actually going to run me bankrupt before I could possibly recoup my investment. Saved me a lot of heartache and quitting a good job.

the Entrepreneur web has quite a bit of information on business plans. Their website is:

http://www.entrepreneur.com/

Type Business Plan in their search engine and you will find a number of different articles.
