irobot scumba Q's

Does anyone have this or the roomba? How does it work. I am really interested and have heard raving reviews from one owner. I am wondering how it works for others. We have concrete floors through the whole house. I can't keep up with the dust bunnies. I never realized how much dirt gets into a house.

We used to have carpet in most of our first house and it was really gross. I never thought the carpet was clean. Now we have only concrete with a couple of floor rugs. I could sweep and mop every day. My back can't take it. I am looking into other options like the scumba.

I have the hoover floor mate and really love it.!!!!! The water container is too small but other than that it is great. It is such a big job to get it out and keep everything clean.

It this worth getting? How long do they last? Thanks for the info in advance.

I had a roomba. Did pretty good on hard floors. Just picks up the surface dirt on the carpet. My problem was it couldn't handle the dog hair and that is why I bought it. I had to take it apart after every use and clean all the little brushes. Got to the point that I'd rather just vacuum than clean that thing. Might have been ok if it was short hair, but the Golden and Collie long hair, just got all wrapped up in it.

I have hardwood floors with various thicknesses of rugs down, some silk, some wool. The regular roomba couldn't take the dog and cat hair and I still had to chase those down. The new one is specifically designed for getting those thick dog hairs and has good reviews. It also costs more! I'm waiting to buy until I find someone who can directly tell me what they think.

BTW, I also go their Looj for the gutters. Rocks!

I found the Roomba we had to be a waste of money. It worked pretty well for a few months and then started doing what is known as the 'Roomba Dance' (it just kind of shuffles itself back and forth) and couldn't be fixed. They do have some quirks and they clean okay- but not nearly as good as a real vacuum.

We still have and use the Scooba, and it seems to do a pretty good job.

My Roomba picks up enough cat hair to build another cat, does a great job with that. I've had it for 2-3 years.

I like it a lot. If it broke, I'd buy another one. I bought it because I hate lugging our big heavy vacuum up and down the stairs...I end up with bruised ankles from it banging against me, and the stupid hose always trips me. Our house is small and there are a lot of tight corners that are hard to maneuver that big thing around.

I love sitting here at my desk while my Roomba does my work for me. And it's cute as a bug.

I do still use the big one once a month or so. I think a Roomba is good for routine cleaning but not for "serious" cleaning.

Picked one up at our "Big Lots" store, for like $80 bucks, just 'cause it was cool. (Not cool @ $180 bucks like when thay first came out).
Does a pretty good job and scares the heck of of the dogs, especially the pup.

I still want one of those little R2D2 units that follows you around.............

If I ever build another house I am thinking of doing all the floors and the lower half of the walls in porcelain tile. I will put a drain in each floor, a hydrant in each room, and use a high pressure fire hose...

My mother loves her Roomba. She uses it strictly on the wood floors to pick up the dog hair from her Husky (talk about a dog that can generate a lot of hair!) The brushes need cleaning after every run, but it does a good job and gets a big bonus for being able to get under the living room furniture.

I have one, and don't use it much. It picks up my daughters' long hair and wraps it around the brushes. I end up having to cut it out with scissors. It also takes 30 or more minutes to do a room, and you have to keep the door shut and everyone out. It does better on non-carpeted floors, but I like my regular canister vacuum better.
