what do you wear while homesteading?
it may sound silly but i'm curious. I'm a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal usually accompanied by flip flops which are a staple of clothing here in the south.
Obviously flip flops aren't great homesteading wear. Jeans and T's probably. I'm lookign for simpler clothes that i dont have to replace often or can make myself with little effort. Something that'll dry fast on the line too. Also, clothing that will work with my changing weight gain/losses.

Shorts and tshirts and tennis shoes while I clean stalls, cut grass, wash horses, etc. I only wear long pants when riding..it's just too blazing hot and humid here for jeans - they stick to me. I do wear some long overall dresses on occasion and flip flops but rarely, I like the toes covered cause I know I am going to somehow end up in a paddock around a horse and a mashed toe is not pretty!

In the summer time I do the morning chores in my jammies sometimes. Then it's shorts, sports bra and tank top with teva's or hikers/socks depending on what I'm doing.
In the winter...I don't even want to think about it LOL!!!

In the summer, I wear a hat that shades my ears as well as my face and neck, a long-sleeved man's work shirt, jeans, boots, and gloves. There's no sense in courting skin cancer, and the boots make me less afraid of encountering one of our mean-tempered bullsnakes. They have a really bad attitude, and aren't one bit afraid of me.
In the cold weather, I go for the Michelin tire man look - I'm always cold. (Maybe that's why all the sun protection doesn't make me hot in the summer!)

Well, I am a fashion plate at the moment! Baby yellow tank and purple linen pants, white sports socks and the nice 'croc' type shoes that I got from the uniform store. They are thicker than crocs and more supportive. (yeah.. I'd kiss me..not)
I have three levels of clothes.. go to town clothes, inside clothes that turn into go outside clothes as they get worn. (what I wore inside yesterday gets worn outside today)
I don't do jeans to work in the barn or garden as they are too restrictive. I choose stretchier, softer stuff.
I have a ton of long sleeve 'over' shirts that get worn all winter.
All of my shopping occurs in the thrift store, so I don't feel bad about wearing nice linen pants outside in the garden because I just paid .75 for them.

I wear a lot of sweat pants and t-shirts. I change into shorts and a t-shirt to gather produce from the garden or weed when it gets hot. I wear sneakers, crocs or hiking style boots depending on what I am doing.

I try to keep my arms covered even in the hottest weather, so I always have on a light colored longsleeve shirt.
Like chickenista, I dont feel bad at all about wearing nice silk shirts in the yard or getting grass stains on my linen pants, they didn't cost much. I get a lot of compliments on some of my clothes...even though they may have cow poop stuck on them, LOL.

We haven't bought our homestead yet, but I guess I have an image in my mind of wearing hospital scrubs and boots during the summer to do chores in. I'm not sure where that image came from... I don't even own any scrubs!

why haven't any of the guys pitched in here? LOL!!
Jeans - they are heavy sometimes, but they also keep the scratches down to a minimum. Often the jeans are patched.
Old shirt - some are button-fronted, some T's, some DH's ripped and torn ones.
I change my clothes many times a day so what I put on might be yesterday's.

Jeans or denim shorys, depends on what I'm doing, long sleeved denim shirts in the winter & sleeveless denim shirts in the summer.
If any of you other ladies like to wear long dresses or skirts, please be careful & don't burn brush piles.

while homesteading? I guess I don't have anything specific.
We do have chore clothes, town clothes and church clothes at my house, though. Good friend of mine lives in flip flops and shorts from about April til October. She runs her folks' ranch and wheat farm in Kansas. When her dad was still alive he used to give her a hard time.
"What kind of protection from rattlesnakes will those shoes give you?!"
She pointed out that most tennies or even boots are snake proof. And in flip flops by golly she'll know she's been bit! lol

Jeans and tees here. NO flip flops or sandals for me...I hate getting sand/grit/dirt on my feet. Been that way my whole life so it's tennis shoes in the summer, work boots in the winter.
I have elastic band jeans for gardening that I wouldn't dare wear off the farm...LOL. In the hottest part of the summer I like to wear simple lightweight cotton dresses, but I hate shorts.

wow! keep em coming gals (and hopefully guys too!) The jeans i wear have strech in them so they're not very restrictive, i also liek baggy jeans with wide legs so i'm pretty comfy. I think i might try making myself some linen cotton pants with drawstrings for those uber hot days.
how about footwear too? I def. want something work hearty but girly too

I loved the looks from the meter reader and the guys at the feedstore

knit pants with a tank top or t-shirt with a mans long sleeved dress shirt over. I wear a wide brimmed straw hat and thick socks and crocs or sneakers. I love to wear dresses and skirts, in fact you will rarely see me in town in anything else but the biting bugs go up the skirts way to easy.
in the winter I change over to long sleeved shirts and boots, witch around here is about 3 months.

I wear jeans and a tshirt with boots. I also tuck my pants into my boots/socks and give a light spray of bug repeller. Ticks and chiggers are waiting to ambush at every step. Even with that regimen I still have a chigger bite right in the arch of my foot and it itches like H E double toothpicks.

Jeans, T-shirt, long sleeve shirt, (all seasons, hate scratches/sunburn), slip on or old guy tennis (Velcro straps over the top) around the house, boots down the hill.
Ball hat.
Town clothes, (shirt tucked in, formal) around the place (shirt out, sleeves rolled up or not, depending on weather).
Cold weather add long johns, Carhart jacket, or insulated shirt/vest etc, stocking hat.
Real cold weather, add Carhart bibs, hooded sweat shirt, bigger boots.
Hunting seasons, various hunt "hunting outfits" (DW words)
Colder than that, stay inside.

my hubby sent me a pink hard hat in the mail LOL (he's in iraq) to wear while we're building our house and barn and garage hee hee.
Target has some cute rain boots, would those work for "muck" boots or shoudl they have more tread? I'll watch for them on clearance if they'd work
