Farmgal: Texas has the greatest population of horses and has an equally large number of "trails" for horse lovers. The lush green section of texas in the east had a great amount of early timber production that resulted in thousands of miles of rail lines built to get the huge virgin timber out. Many miles of these road beds were converted to rural roads and often remain as low traffic, sandy, gravel country roads good for horseback travel. In addition, many of the thousands of acres of National forrest and Texas state forrest parcels have hiking and horseback trails. Specific information will require your personal inquiry as I believe the Eastern half of Texas is larger than all the New England states combined.
