Well Pump & Pool

Has anyone with well pump ever filled up your swimming pool.
I'm wondering if it would be too hard on the pump ,to pump that much water?
3ft x 12 ft pool.

What kind of well, what kind of pump?

Some wells have very limited output, those you can pump dry & so you have to watch how much you draw out at one time, allow the water to refill the well casing.

Most wells in most places you hope you have a well that flows as fast as the pump can draw water. Should be no problem.

My deep well is 250 feet or so, they say it puts out 50 gpm - my submersable pump on the one inch pipe will only deliver 20 gallons per minute. For filling the cistern for the livestock, I let it run for 4 hours at a time. No problem.

You should have no problem at all unless you have a poor pump or a marginal well - which you haven't given any specifics about.

True as I have filled 2 --- 150 gallon water tanks up at the same time, 300 gallons for a well is not that much water to take out at one time. and a 3 ft by 12 ft. Course the pool is 3 times that amount. But if you were afraid, take a few days to fill it. Do it in steps.
OR do what lots of people do, is to contact your local fire department and have THEM fill it for you~!

If the pump is a concern it is on borrowed time anyway. The well should be fine unless it is a low producing well in which case you should fill it gradually over a few days.

Based on the dimensions you provided and assuming your pool is round, you’ll need just over 2500 gallons to fill the pool. Now, assuming that you have a typical residential well pump that goes 5gpm, it will take about 8.5 hours to fill the pool. Living in Western Wisconsin, you should have plenty of water in your aquifer. If you’re worried about the pump pooping out, you might want to consider pumping 1 or 2 hours per day until the pool is full.

If it were me, I’d get rid of the pool and go to the lake.

If you fill the pool, choose a location as close to the pump as possible to connect your hose. Use the largest diameter hose you have, and don't put any restrictions like a spray nozzle on it. You want the maximum flow. What you are aiming for is to keep the line pressure low enough so the pump doesn't start and stop every few seconds/minutes. The start/stop cycle will burn out the pump or pressure switch.

Follow everyone else's advise as well.
