Common Lilac Question

Does the color of the common lilac change depending on the stage of the flower or I should say over the flowers life cycle? Thanks Chris

Actually, I think you can change the color a bit by adjusting the PH of the soil...
I dont know about a life cycle change though

I know ph affects Hydrangeas but I don't think it affects Lilac. We have several old lilac bushes here at our farm, one probably 100+ years old next to the old wellhouse and yes it changes color as the flower ages. When the little buds are on it, they are a dark purple/blue. As they open they turn more light purple and finally to a light blue just before the petals fall off.

We also have a white lilac given to me by an 80something year old lady that came from a bush on her family farm. It is very pretty white though it doesn't seem to get quite as large as the purple lilac, which can get 15ft tall if ya let it! Nathan

the life cycle of the flower itself..yes..it will fade somewhat as the flower is nearing it's drop..from the brighter to a more pastel.
