What would you do with a one ton with 75,000 miles
We have a 89 ford dully with a gas 460 engine. We never use it it just sets, the gas had gone bad and now it will not crank. Should we get it fixed and keep it just incase we need it. I want it gone, wife wants to keep it. Its a Zimmer custom four door tires less than 3,000 miles 79,000 miles on the truck. Gas milage about 10 mpg, loved it back in 89 when it bought it. Been over that for a while. What do you think.

Have the fuel system flushed thoroughly, clean the injectors, tune it all up and sell it running. It will bring a lot more money that way. Its pretty obvious you dont need or want it. cash it out.

I would fix it up and then either sell it or keep it around for usuable trainsportation. Do not expect a lot for it. If you can sell it for more than $4,000 you will be doing good. If you keep it around run it at least every week to keep everything working. You only need to start it up and get it warm and drive around a block or sometning like that.

Sell it as is, for whatever you can get. $500 and its out of your hair. If you used it fine but you don't. I keep a heavy duty Ford around to do those really big jobs. Economy isn't very important compared to the job it does but if you never use it shift it along.

What do you mean by
and now it will not crank.
It won't turn over? Put a little Marvel Mystery Oil in it and turn it by hand.
Is the battery shot?
According to Edmunds.com, you MIGHT get $600 for it running.
For that, you are better fixing it and keeping it, especially if you need to put a battery, and gas into it.

3. Average Vehicle may have a few mechanical and/or cosmetic problems and may require a considerable amount of reconditioning. Exterior paint has some dullness. Vehicle may have a considerable amount of scratches or dings. Interior material is slightly worn and faded. Tires have some useable tread remaining. Vehicle has a clean title and has the ability to pass an emissions inspection.
I used Average for this, also 1990.
My bad on the $600 from my last post, but not too far off. Most of the value comes from the low mileage.

The truck is worth more then $600 if you cut it up in little pieces. Even with it being a gas hog it has value to someone looking to tow whether it be a horse/cattle trailer, race car trailer or a camper. i would have it running and advertise it if you no longer have a use for it. The drivetrain itself is worth good money with that low mileage. Heck, the tires and wheels are worth a few hundred alone.

If the gas has gone wonky etc.. and it has been sitting for awhile you will probably need to replace the brake lines as well. Without use they can weaken considerably.
At least, you need to check them out thoroughly before you head off down the road.
I had to replace the brake lines on my old Studebaker several times because I would end up letting it sit until I could afford a part or two.
