Now please talk about Johnson City

Many thanks to the recent answers to my questions about Knoxville. I have also just found a job opportunity in the Johnson City area that would also be a huge advancement for me, and I feel really good about my chances. I have applied for that one and the one in Oak Ridge/Knoxville, so please keep me in your prayers for getting one of them.

One thing I know about Johnson City, is it is a long way to Richmond (where I am now) rolling north on 95, and that Travis Tritt has an awful sense of direction! I also now about the area's penchent for lynching murderous elephants.

But, I have some questions about living there.

How much does 5-10 acres go for? How much of a PITA are the building codes/inspections/restrictions? How much of a busybody is local government?

Is ETSU a good school? DW is getting ready to go back to school and finish her BS degree. With this job, she won't ahve to work and can go full time.

The weather seems comperable to Central Va where I am now. Are tornados or flooding major issues or concerns?

Thanks in advance for any information!

I don't go to JC very often. It's probably the fastest growing area in E TN especially since they extended I-26 from NC. It's the place with all of the chains and malls and all of the restaurants. It's also where the people relocating from FL are coming to now that western NC has gotten so expensive.
No major flooding or tornadoes.

I spent two semesters at ETSU. I enjoyed the campus. Only prof. I didn't like was a history prof who used a cussword every 2-3 times in a sentence. The campus is pretty big so class scheduling is important so that your classes are close enough to reach in time. There is also a VA hospital available. We lived in Bluff City at the time. Even when we lived there I thought JC was too big (BTW, "too big" for me is anything over 1500 LOL).

Can't help you much on JC other than they have Starbucks, Smokey Bones (YUM) and that's where my deceased employer made his home. Try the boards at City data.

good luck
